I'm currently enjoying the luxury of my dad's Legacy Outback 3.0. Goodness it's comfy. Given the choice I'd prefer something with a little more flair. Being more precise, an XFR. Alas I'm boringly practical so I was wondering how people have found their XF behaves in the snow when fitted with winter tyres?

Absolutely fine.

Cheap set of Jaguar Venus 18"s off EBay, plus a set of Petlas Snowmasters. They'll be going on again mid November, while the 20"s get a refurb and new Dunlops.

Alas, for an XFR, I think the smallest wheel that fits over the discs is 19", so it adds a little to the costs involved.

My XF-S is excellent in the snow with winter boots on (and winter mode enabled). Last winter there wasn't much snow, but the winter before I got a good chance to try it out here in Munich, and I was honestly passing many BMWs, including an X5 and a X-Drive 5-series, which were finding the going tough. The funniest thing I saw (not while driving) was an X3 sliding all over the place down our road (which was not particularly slippery) - probably a 2-wheel drive model, but quite appalling considering.

I got my XFR last December and put winters on it. I didn't get the chance to test them last winter but the grip was very good at low temperatures.

I moved away from an A8 and the security of 4x4 after lots of positive stories of rear wheel drive with winters.

BTW - you will not be disappointed with the XFR. Tremendous car. The heated steering wheel was nice this morning too!

Thanks for the replies. It's a coin toss at the moment between XFR with winter tyres in the..er...winter or a sports car in the garage and a less glamorous daily driver. Good to know the big Jag will keep on moving should the north winds blow....

My XK 5.0 is fitted with Bridgestone Blizzak's in winter and drives superbly. A similarly equipped XF should have no problems in winter - whether facing rain, ice or snow.
