Random Number Generator, an algorithm which generates random numbers, basically means it's pot luck whether you get something or not. I think in gaming turns it's origins are from way back when to table top role playing games where you'd role a dice to see if you won anything.

You'd have thought after going to the effort of getting 6 people together and then making it all the way through the raid that Bungie would at least throw you a bone. Some of the design decisions in this game are truly mystifying.

It's not mystifying - it's a stroke of genius. People like me would have had every item in the game weeks ago if the rewards were guaranteed, but instead we're still grinding away like moths to a flame months later trying to get that last bit of kit to make our armour slightly more shiney!

I take comfort from the fact that:

(a) I know people who have played it so much they have unlocked everything in the game and have now moved on; and

(b) I can get on Iron Banner Fireteams with some of those guys and absolutely annihilate the opposition (the two guys at the bottom weren't in the Fireteam)!



That drones guy went 18-0 in one of the games I played with him.

Oh I agree it's a stroke of genius for Bungie, it ensures that people will keep playing the game and grinding those same levels over and over again when they might have moved on long ago. Whoever decided to put it in at Bungie deserves a massive pay rise.

However from a user experience viewpoint it's a total p*sstake. Come top in Crucible and get nothing. You and your mates work there ar*es off to complete the raid and come up empty handed. It is totally counter intuitive to the basic risk\reward system that runs through nearly every other game, you do well and you expect to get rewarded. It's a system that we all know and to be fair it works well, the system in Destiny just feels very jarring in comparison. It's an artificial way of limiting and slowing down progress so that people stay interested in the game. I'd rather they produced more content in the first place or produced DLC at a quicker pace tbh.

The problem is they've tried to do an MMO but it's ended up as an MMO lite and it's definitely missing some depth. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy it as the gunplay is fluid and satisfying. Playing with other PH'ers is also great fun but I'm not sure how long this will keep me hooked as the game definitely has some major frustrations. I think Bungie are lucky that nothing else really interesting is out on the PS4 right now or a lot would have moved on long ago.

If you're a fan of shards and duplicate guns, I did brilliantly!! . Didn't finish Atheon due to various departures and a very drunk relic holder so, still one more roll of the dice for some armour this afternoon.

Saw the Last word drop and a few legendary weapons for others though.

Yup, shards and energy, did manage to bag a pair of boots though so pleased with that. Definitely some amusing alcohol related moments nearing the end! What time are you planning on trying to finish it this afternoon Speckle? I may be around to join in, need a decent weapon drop of any description!!!

Me: "I've clocked it!! I've swapped the trigger buttons over!! I've been pressing the wrong buttons the whole time"

Bit busy today, hopefully be on this evening. Got to get level 4 IB and to complete the raid.

Probably about 4:30 - 5:00pm I expect. I just remember hearing Jas saying various things like "I think I just walked off the map" and "I think this Minotaur is bigger than usual!" followed by "F*ck, I'm dead again!"

All good fun - should go much smoother this afternoon. Then I'll have to do it all over again with my Hunter

Does anyone know if equipment levels up during the raid? I equipped my new boots to start levelling them up, checked after the Templar and they hadn't increased at all.

As a matter of interest, Sony offer a 160 day refund/replace policy. My ps4 stopped working yesterday, so I went to John Lewis, angling for a replacement, expecting them to take it away to try and repair it and they swapped it straight away. If anyone else has a temperamental one like mine, I suggest swapping it rather than living with it like I was.

We weren't far off finishing that Raid - I think the problem was simply Rob_GTR's level - as a level 25 he does something like 30% less damage to enemies and takes 30% more damage from them than a level 28, so it makes it very difficult for him to stay alive and contribute, especially as he's still learning how to do each phase.

The last drop does seem to have a higher chance of dropping good kit, so it's well worth doing - plus you normally get the "Chatterwhite" storm trooper shader for your character, which is quite cool.

I don't think you get XP in the Raid, which makes the RNG drops even more frustrating. Glimmer multipliers (Blue Polyphage) don't seem to work either.

I will be on tonight and up for raid (maxed my AE after the raid last night) or just levelling up in IB.

Oh and as for RNG madness, I love scout rifles and have been after the MIDA for ages, finally XUR is selling it so I get one yesterday as soon as I log on. After the raid I went and farmed some helium, leg engram drops - turns into the MIDA! you could not make this st up!

Thanks for the raid run guys. Apart from the jumping that was good fun! managed to get boots, gloves, a sharder and a gun. Not bad really.

If there are any spots going on raids this afternoon/evening, I'm in. I've been playing with yanks for most of the week so it would be good to have some UK craic..

Strange thing happened this week though, found a group for the nightfall on Destiny LFG and got paired with a Dutch dude and a yank who were brutally strong. We completed the nightfall in 20 mins!! No wipes. Sepiks went down in about 3 mins! I was astounded.
