So, I have finally popped my raid cherry! It was brilliant fun and everything I hoped it would be.

As it turned out, I was sherpa'd through by probably the most competent raid group I could have hoped for (Kaney, Benny, Adam, joe, Jas and me) and, as a result, Oryx fell after only a couple of hours play.

This wasn't the intention at all, I would have been quite happy to go in with a motley crew with one or two experienced raiders to point us in the right direction but, I was running strikes with Kaney and the group sort of assembled itself. I think it probably all felt a little easier than it would have done otherwise thumbup

I went in as at light level 292 and definitely felt useful and wasn't underpowered. There were bits that confused me (and still do, I really must hit youtube today!) I don't think anyone with light of 280+ would struggle with an experienced group.

I emerged from the raid with light level 297 so, a productive evening. I got a 308 ghost, a 304 bond, a 305 auto rifle and a 306 pulse rifle. Amazingly, the pulse rifle seems decent thumbup

I was surprised at how much jumping was involved this time round, there was lots and lots of jumping! For me (as Warlock), this also meant many deaths hehe Got there in the end though smile

Started levelling up my Hunter for that handcannon this morning. Gunsmith rank level 2 so far and need to wait for next week's weapons. Oh dear, so much for casual....the grind has begun again!!

That's good going. Any idea of the requirements for HM?

Nah, he was very gracious and simply said it was a good light level. I was a bit disappointed initially not to get any actual armour but, the bond and ghost kind of count as armour these days so, all good thumbup

If anyone else here fancies the new raid today then I'll be on this afternoon at some point. I haven't done it yet and there are a couple of other newbs (Simian, Moog, are you about?) so will need some kind sherpas too.

Bagged myself the Warlock exclusive scout rifle, Tlaloc, this morning and its an odd beast. The exotic perk basically means that when you're supercharged, the weapon hits harder, fires faster and handles better, which is perfect for sunsingers who like to hold their super for a clutch self-res. Thing is, it's a pretty decent scout rifle in standard form, so with the super charged version is a bit of a monster.

Been golfing this afternoon I'm afraid, but I hope to be about tomorrow afternoon if you are and still fancy a run in the Raid. I agree about needing sherpas though as I just won't have the hours available to try and work it all out from scratch. As per Speckle, it will just be nice to run it without knowing anything about it, apart from some bloke called Oryx apparently scratchchin

I managed to get most of the Exotic sword quest done this morning, finally finishing off the Crucible kills section before taking a few goes to figure out the mechanics required for the next section with the wardens, and the boss, who is seemingly immune to all damage. I won't spoil either mechanic here! The next stage felt very much like Destiny circa October 2014; farming materials from spinmetal and trying to rack up arc kills in the cosmodrome. I worked out a farming route, but given the scarcity of the rare material, and the glacier-like pace that the arc kill meter fills it took two rather tedious hours to complete. Just waiting on Armsday now!

Also, I've managed to bag myself a virgin raid group for 8am sunday morning; I know its early for a sunday, but Stimps, Moog, if you're about there may be a slot free.

Well done on the exotic sword quest, I managed to rack up one sword kill in the Crucible on Friday although I've read that you don't actually need heavy ammo to get sword kills, can anyone confirm?

8am tomorrow? Thank you for opportunity but there is no chance I'll be around at that time biggrin Good luck though!

You can hit them with the sword hilt. Does take 2 clumps though.

Was in a party chat when people were boosting for sword kills in rumble, was hilarious:

"Let's all make for c and take turns to whack each other"
"Right I'm at c, get over here"
"There's red on my radar, is that you?"
"AAARRGGH! It's not you, he's SHOOTING ME"
"Don't worry I'm coming"
"I got shot off it, I'm dead"
"AARRRGH! Too late, he's SHOOTING ME"
"Why did you shoot me you wally?"
"Sorry. I couldn't see your name clearly so I thought I'd shoot in case it was an enemy"
Etc, etc.

I may or may not have been an active participant in the aforementioned activity.

Now that does sound like a lot of fun laugh Must have a go at that as it's probably the only way I'm going to get 25 Crucible kills with the sword.

Can we get a fireteam of 6 into rumble, for some mass cheating, or will it max out at 3?

The other side of it is me getting pissed off trying to do Shaxx weekly cruicible bounties with wallys on my team running around getting 2 kills a match with the sword handles and increasing my blood pressure as a loss means losing a point against the 9 needed.

Was a waste of time anyway as his special rewards consisted of a 150 legendary rocket launcher with average stats and average perks and the reward for doing all his special cruicible bunnies in a week (or 3 hours as it turned out) was 2 motes of light....

Reset day and Trials can't come quick enough.

Fire team of 3 only. One of our resident PvP specialists was commenting how we were the embodiment of everything he despises in crucible bowtieshootblabla (although he was chuckling away). Was some of the best fun I've had in PvP for a while.

Oh yeah. Reset for the raid is all I'm really interested at the mo. Really looking forward to Banana and Trials (still quite a few people using last years god roll set ups as well, gonna be in for a nasty surpriseevil).

The grind is too much already, seems like everyone's got an exotic sword and ToM. I'll grind for them if they become a prerequisite of HM.

You guys should be careful, pretty sure boosting is counted as cheating in Bungie's eyes, so if anyone reports you and they look into it, you could face some pretty stiff punishments.

Getting the sword kills legitimately is very easy as a hunter - just go with bladedancer and go invisible (and off radar) as often as possible - then run up behind people and smash 'em!

With the other classes, just crouch (off radar again) by doorways/pinch points and smash people as they run past. Definitely use blink for Warlock and always blink into a longer range sword attack to throw your target's aim off.

BTW, this week is a really good week for the next step in the quest - getting ability kills with the same element as the sword. Go into Mayhem in the Crucible and fill your boots with super kills. Each kill is worth 1% progress and you can typically rack up 4-8 per game.

That's pretty crappy - thought weekly bounty rewards were supposed to be Nightfall tier?

Okay, took my first foray into King's Fall this morning.

The first room, near the Court of Oryx took us a couple of goes to figure out, as we initially planted the relics in the statues individually, before we worked out that they're two halves. We also took too long on a couple of occasions, which sets you back one statue. Wasn't too challenging, but it was nice to see teamwork basically being essential, even before you hit the "st-gets-serious" part of the raid.

The swinging cannisters jumping section was quite amusing, and the first time we were standing on a Tombship as it vanished and dumped us all into the darkness below got several laughs as well. I did really enjoy that bit though, primarily because A) it's something a bit different and B) I was the first one to make it across, therefore it wasn't too frustrating. The next part of this area did take one set of deaths before we worked out you needed to stand on platforms to remove the wall.

I won't lie, working out how to tag-team the annihilator totems to activate the portal did take at least dozen or so deaths, and we were on the cusp of failing again when the message popped up that we had been deemed worthy by the Warpriest. Warpriest? Ah. Him. Again, it took several attempts to work out what the plates on the floor were doing as no one was in a position to see the required sequence, and even when we did understand that, it took longer to work out that the aura that allows the fireteam to damage him is actually killing the person who has it. A few more deaths resulted before we figured out that killing adds resets the ten-second timer. It did take several goes to get him down, as we were initially struggling to damage him enough before he finishes melting the pillars and wipes the fireteam. Eventually, everyone switched to snipers, we had two nightstalker debuff him which resulted in a substantial increase in the damage he took, and we killed him. I got... well, sweet FA as a reward. Four others got Ghosts, the final guy got a set of boots. I got moldering shards and that was it. Cock.

I was a tad bitter and getting shafted by lack of gear (especially as everyone else had jumped a few light as a result of a new higher light ghost), so I was at the back of the pack when we ran through the foggy maze bit. I managed to find a few holes in the ground that no one else had even noticed, dying three times before anyone else had perished even once. Beyond my idiocy, it was a largely uneventful passage when we stumbled across Golgoroth.

I hate to think how much time this took, probably an hour and a half would be a generous guess, but it took a very long time to figure out his patterns and work out how to do meaningful, sustained damage to him. In the end, we opted to have one guy aggro him, then the rest popped one of the... lamps? Bowls?... in the ceiling, hopped into the puddle and put as many sniper shots in his gut as we could manage. It took five waves before we got him.

If swearing was a sport, I'd have won the premier league already by the time we finished the next jumping puzzle section. There were many frustrating deaths, bouncing off walls, getting catapulted by the spiky-dick-things, the only saving grace being that one of the group did manage to find a chest buried slightly off the beaten path. Only got shard and synths from it, but there may be a chance for more. It must have taken forty five minutes for the entire group to navigate our way through it.

Deathsingers didnt go well. It took us quite a while to work out the mechanics, a bit longer to work out an effective strategy to make sure we were all together to damage one of the bosses, and... well, quite frankly, we ran out of time. A couple of the guys in the team were in the US, and they had literally been online since just before midnight. They were knackered, and one of the other guys had to keep disappearing to look after his infant son. We called it a day after failing for the umpteenth time.

I have Deathsinger CP if anyone fancies giving me a hand getting it done later today or tomorrow!

So, that was my first taste of Kings Fall. It's bloody great isn't it?

LC, appreciate the offer, I'll likely take you up on that if I can't reassemble the same group again. It took about five hours to get to that point - which I was fairly happy with to be honest - though I think it'll be a while before I get close to doing the 45 minute speed runs! The only downside to it was the lack of meaningful rewards.
