If only I'd watched it being done on Youtube or something, at times it was comical, I thought I was playing Super Mario World at one point, jumping from one level to another, jumping down a massive chasm (splat, then splat, then splat, then splat...)
Those fecking rings kept surrounding me on another part, I thought I was being awesome by slowly escaping from it and then mysteriously dying 5 seconds later...lol

I got invited last night by some lads that I've run hard VoG with previously.They sit on the middle ledge, in front of the spawn room. Boomers don't shoot you from either side there. Then the sword bearer and a titan go to Crota, the Titan puts down the shield that pops two orbs out, this serves a dual purpose of protecting them from one side of boomers and the orbs mean the sword bearer can generate a super whilst holding the sword. The timing was brilliant, they dropped crota three times for each sword.
I'll be back on tonight for another crack.
We used the centre strategy and on one occasion got his health down to under a quarter left. We were at it for about an hour before some of them had to leave.
There are a few things that we learnt and adapted last night that I will run through with everyone tonight, if we get the team back together.
One thing that we need though is a bit of patience. We are going to wipe quite a lot, and burn through a lot of heavy ammo. I used over a dozen synths last night on this alone.
The centre strategy does work, but even from my experience last night and from watching YouTube vids, there is quite a bit of luck involved also. Nobody is quite sure how/why/if the boomers fire on the sword carrier as an example. Some times they did, sometimes they didn't.
I think we can do it. We communicate far better than the team I was in last night.

There is now a method for the sword carrier to not draw the attention of the boomers, seems to work too. The hardest thing is going to be finding a decent method for the ogres. Whilst stood on that window ledge during this phase, I got melee'd by a thrall on the other side when we thought we were safe. They can hit you through the 'glass'. We will need 2/3 players taking out the thralls, the rest on ogres.

It appears that as soon as the sword carrier jumps down into the pit to pick up the sword, he shouldn't be shooting or melee any enemies as this brings attention from the boomers. Last night I was in the pit trying to Gjallahorn the sword bearer, and dodge incoming boomer shots/thralls/cursed thralls etc.He also needs to hug the wall of crotas platform on the way to the ledge.
Timing will be important. You don't want the sword to drop too early, and you don't want the sword carrier hanging around in the pit trying to stay alive whilst the sword bearer is downed.

I know our game glitched a few times but should there be no ammo drops on the bit on the second section where you've the five teleport plates to protect? Right through that entire section I saw no ammo drop

This is really the safest method I've seen so far because nothing can damage the rest of the fire team on the left other than thralls that can't go all the way up the stairs. No one is in the pit other than the sword holder for a very short amount of time so you don't risk cursed thralls or boomers or wizards hitting you while you run around trying to kill the sword bearer. The sword holder is in no danger other than the seconds that it takes to run from the stairs onto the safe rock. There's nothing really "cheesy" about this, you're not standing in an invincible place, you're not disconnecting, you're not playing this in a way that Bungie did not intend. the idea is that two defender titans will lock down both boomers in the left hand tower while the team generates orbs for them.
you approach from the left hand side so you put crota between you and the right hand side boomers and our sword holder confirmed that he was never hit by boomers.
this doesn't require perfect timing or anything crazy like that because we could have probably gone another sword cycle before Crota even started to enrage on timer.
-You will start the fight as normal, kill the acolytes but be careful (something I should have included is that if we had a third titan we would actually have placed a bubble in the beginning to give everyone BoL but our strategy really rides on both of our titans being ready to super upon starting the fight.
-damage the ultra knights so that they are close to dying and let someone (we used nova bomb or golden gun) to take out the hallowed knights, generating 4 orbs per kill, a total of 16 orbs.
-titans will run out and put bubbles over both boomers in the tower and run back inside to grab the orbs. this means you never kill the boomers while engaging crota and the wizard never spawns
-your swordholder (bladedancer) will lure the sword bearer towards the rest of your fireteam who are waiting on the left side and DPS it down.
-shoot your heavies, down crota and repeat. a total of 14 swipes (in our experience) will put you right where you need to be so that you can kill him on the third sword, but you wont enrage him yet
-after the second sword run through the summoning crystal room and to the right side where you kill the boomers, heal up and assign someone to watch the thralls that come from behind.
-focus down the right ogre, shift back to the left, focus boomers, then focus the left ogre down.
-WAIT FOR CROTA TO HEAD BACK MIDDLE, DPS sword bearer, down crota.
-crota will enrage, doesn't matter
-everyone heavy crota until he goes down again so that you can finish him off on the second damage cycle of the third sword.
-cry tears of joy

Not from my desk at work it isn't! Clicked over to level 27 last night, I did a bounty or two and upgraded my armour
Also had an Xbox update installed (mines in the beta programme) and updated both controllers.
Fingers crossed the comms will be working properly next time.
Will try and get on tonight, but the dragon will most likely want a night together, I'll see if I can fein illness or something.
