Hi

As a gift from my boss he has offered to buy me a watch from a local jewellers (I'm 20 years in his company) needless to say I'm delighted!

I have picked out two watches, both Tag Heuer. I know they are not the most popular brand on here but I've always liked them.

http://www.lunns.com/special-offers/tag-heuer-gent...

http://www.lunns.com/pre-owned-tag-heuer-monaco-18...

I'm more inclined to go with the Monaco as I love the square face. I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts as I don't really know a lot about the watches themselves.

Thanks

Are you tied to Lunns or did you just choose them because they're local?
Have you asked the boss what budget he's set aside for this lovely gesture?
Not wishing to sound greedy, but I would be a bit disappointed if it was £2K max.

Can't help on the Tag Heuer front other than whilst they make nice looking watches, it's their servicing and reliability down the line which often turns people's positive feelings, sour.
Pre-owned at the right price, they are a decent purchase, but there's far too many alternatives which are equally if not more deserving of consideration.

Do you have any other watches, and if so, what are they?
Aside from liking the squarer shape, are you looking for a dressy watch or a bit of an all-rounder?

If you are restricted to that retailer or indeed brand, can you push for the chrono in either of those watches. Both are motor sport related and I personally prefer both with this feature.

I'm tied to the shop unfortunately as a friend of his owns it. I can spend up to £1200 plus I'll add some myself but we are doing work to a new house so any spare cash is going into it - wife's orders. I will go to around £1500

I'm have a Raymond Weil tango sport, a g-shock, a roamer superior and and an old record watch. Not very exciting! But I love each one for different reasons.

I guess I'm after a nice watch for the weekend, nothing too flashy looking.

I have a Heuer Monaco and really like it.

The best thing to do is get down there and try them all on

If the Lunns family are friends of his, then I'd have imagined £1200 is £1600 worth at RRP, at the least.
If not, and £1200 is £1200, then I'd ask for it in cash!
Frankly, whilst not expecting something for having done a job/role(s) paid to do, £1200 for a 20 year loyalty reward is bordering on a slap in the face.
Tudor relaunches on the 19th, but if you can't get the right level of discount, I really would just ask for the cash and put it towards the renovations.

On the face of it, it sounds a bit ungrateful, but it's not as if Lunns has a great range to choose from in the under £2K market segment, so the gift is a bit restrictive in what you can choose realistically.
If you've a good relationship with the boss, then I'd explain that to him, and why it'd mean more to have the freedom to choose from elsewhere, assuming you don't just settle for the path of least resistance and either of the Tag Heuers you linked to.

Having just reached 20yrs at my firm and been offered various options, none of which exceed £150, I'd be over the moon with the offer of a £1200 watch.

What would you deem fit for 20 year loyalty out of curiosity?

I was given £300 after 10 years, which I was neither up nor down about.

Personally, I'm am over the moon with the gesture - no matter how much it is. It wasn't expected it and I was shocked to get anything.

I'd certainly be over the moon! As I'm sure most folk would be!

Nice watches incidentally, enjoy whichever one you choose. thumbup

Well I know I won't be getting anything like this from my employer based off what current 20 year workers get so I'd be chuffed.

The gesture is a nice one, asking for cash or moaning about being locked in to one shop etc is just rude.

Pick your favourite, go in and try some of them on and just pick. It's a free watch to thank you for your hard work and dedication. Go in a try a load on, 1 will stand out and then it will mean something to you.

My new step father in law bought me watch as a welcome to the family/wedding gift

Personally I like the Monaco but they both seem reasonably priced

Of the two, it'd be a no-brainer to get the Monaco for me.

I've always wanted one and it's one of the few 'iconic' designs. I can't imagine you getting tired of it, especially with a story to go with it.

The Carrera's nice, but it's too much like a lot of other watches for me, even though I'd happily take it if it was your only choice smile

SOME? Read back carefully biggrin

But I'd agree with PJS, clearly the OP should spit in his employers tea and leave the building with immediate effect for such an outrageous and humiliating snub!

M

PS Enjoy whatever you choose smile

I'm assuming because I've agreed to buy it they have removed if from the website.

Hopefully.
