Pushed someone a few times - Assault?
Discussion
I parked on a particular part of waste land whilst I made a call.
It was in an Industrialised area. A high vis wearing guy tapped on my window and told me to move quite bluntly.
We exchanged a few pleasantries and he stormed off and thumped the rear door on my car and left a shallow dent.
I jumped out and and went after him saying that he should not have done that (you get the gist)
As he didn't turn around i grabbed his shoulder and span him around and pushed him with two hands. Fairly hard but not enough to make him stumble or lose balance. I basically gave him a mouthful (no threats issued though) and left.He shouted that I'm on CCTV and it was assault.
Having calmed down and realised what a complete dick I have been I'm worrying what can happen to me. I have no record and apart from a speeding ticket or two Ive never been in trouble.

He is right in that what you did to him is classed as assault, but I doubt very much anything will come of it, as you could counter sue for the damage to your car.
Completely inaccurate. The counter allegation won't make any difference should the guy wish to make a complaint.Technically the offence you committed was battery. You could be arrested and cautioned for common assault/battery. You could be dealt with voluntarily and cautioned. If he wasn't happy with a caution, you could POTENTIALLY be charged. Unlikely though.
All depends on what he does about it. Is he likely to make a complaint?

Presumably the OP could make a compliant to the Police about Mr HiViz causing criminal damage to his car (the shallow dent), albeit that won't make the complaint against the OP go away. It might result in the CCTV footage suddenly being lost though...

If he does report it, the OP can make the counter allegation of damage - may not affect the outcome but then it may stop matey from taking things further if he knows he going to cop a caution as well potentially
Once it's been reported the police are duty bound to investigate it anyway.Bigends said:

Sounds like a way in for an officer to suggest both parties may wish to leave it to me! Although if that were the case, you'd be the chap pinging emails to the officer wanting to record it as a crime OP, have a look at this see if anything you did fits: http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/s_to_u/self_defence/
