I know its not finished but seems very cheap considering they are supposed to fetch 30k+?
thats true, does it also have a good or refurbished chassis?when you look at the engine bay it looks like all was in place (body/engine) during the 'restoration'
maybe all was ok and it did not needed more? or just not spoken of in the ad.

I have been *sort of* thinking of adding an early TVR to my garage, is this (1800s) the sort of car that could be bought unseen without too much risk involved?? Mainly due to distances involved....

A lot depends on what you expect. If you believe its an unfinished project you will be massively dissapointed. Its a total body off ground up restoration with unfortunately some fresh paint hiding what may or may not be underneath. No mention of chassis condition means its unknown and in spite of Andrew saying it will be OK I will guarantee it wont be. Its 50 years old, I,ve seen a lot of TVR over the years and you would be stupid not to take the body off. If you get lucky, and you wont, at least you know but you can then progress to restoring it properly. Its had no mechanical work done, why was it taken off the road. I bet it wasnt because it was fresh as a daisy and it WILL need a total mechanical rebuild, engine , suspension, brakes , transmission, everything electrical and on and on and on. Oh and that glass roof!!!!
Having said all of that it is still worth £12,000. If it was £8000 some would think it cheap but when you add the purchase price to the cost of restoration a few grand is irrelevant.
only my opinion sTeVeR

I Agree with Steve and bow to his experience however i would hope that the seller had the sense to inspect the chassis before doing the work he has done and at least drilled a few test holes in the areas where its glassed.
But at 8k it would be a steal and maybe an offer somewhere in the middle would get you the car and that would leave you a very good starting point for either a rolling restoration or like i would want to do a full body off and start again however with the interior looking rather fresh and if on closer inspection as good as the seller says i know that would save you a fortune on the build as that side soon adds up

You can drill holes in that till your ears bleed and it will still need the body off.But at 8k it would be a steal and maybe an offer somewhere in the middle would get you the car and that would leave you a very good starting point for either a rolling restoration or like i would want to do a full body off and start again however with the interior looking rather fresh and if on closer inspection as good as the seller says i know that would save you a fortune on the build as that side soon adds up

Seems to me he,s started the "restoration" at the end and was going to work towards the beginning.
Remember its not what you pay for it, its what it costs you but I,ll say again still worth £12,000 if you,ve got your eyes open.
