Hey guys,

Hope you're all well! I went for my first test drive in a Tuscan S yesterday. The car is due a 12k service which is fine but I just wanted to ask you guys whether the speed six is a particularly tappety engine? And will this noise be reduced when it's tappets are adjusted in the service?

Thanks in advance,

Adam

When cold they can sound like a bag of spanners, even just after a re-build. It is an inherently noisy engine. Best bet is to get an expert to look at the car

It's difficult to say without hearing it, I bought a wrongen from a dealer that was tapperrty at the end of the test drive and when I questioned it the dealer said they all do that sir. Any collected car and within 60 miles it was smoking like a fisherman and his pipe.

Long story short, after speaking to a very well known engine builder who had worked on it in the past, it was screwed. So a lengthy exchange of emails to the dealer and a refund was given. Although he put it straight back up for sale and it still is....

This one rattled most at 1800-2100rpm and could easily be heard over the de cat exhaust. The car I have now rattles ever so slightly but can only be heard if reflecting off a wall, and hasn't used a drop of oil in 2k miles. But from my understanding they mechanics of the engine mean it will rattle ever so slightly and I mean slightly, something you would have to listen out for rather than hear

Personally, unless a rebuild has been built into the price of the car, I'd be tempted to walk away. And.... If I were selling and my car was rattling excessively and in need of a 12k service if get it done prior to selling it.

If it a car you absolutely love, get it checked out.

to be honest I've done 4000 miles + in mine since I've had it and I still think it sounds tappety
but it sounds the same today as it did 2 years ago,so I guess that's just the way it is,always plays on my mind though, spoils the fun just a bit
