Got any links/references regarding the restrictions?
http://morzinesourcemagazine.com/avoriaz-lift-openings-sat-20th-december/You can't buy any passes online for 20-27 Dec online now either, though if you brave the scrums at Super Morzine, Ardent, or Prodain, there will be limited day passes for sale. Sounds grim

We're heading to Chamonix / Les Houches area on Saturday for a week. The lifts are supposed to fully open the day we arrive, although last year they were already open mid-Dec, so certainly not looking as good this time round!
Anyone else driving down Saturday?
I'll be skiing there on Saturday but the lifts won't be fully open. Only Grand Montets really.Anyone else driving down Saturday?

Looking at the GFS model data, it suggests we can expect another dusting this weekend but nothing more until late next week, Thursdayish I think. However, temps are due to drop from Tuesday on, so hopefully that means they can fire up the snow making machines.
I found this interesting link to some GFS data for the Geneva area, from www.wetterzentrale.de showing different forecast sources for temperature and precipitation. This is live data and the image should update, I think every 6 hours. After dip into the cold, then a warm spell over the next few days, the general trend is to get colder but still above average temps with some more precipitation to come later in Dec which may be good for my trip on 3rd Jan to Les gets, but it could go any way...Edited by prand on Friday 19th December 14:31

Chamonix have just published an "alternative to skiing" activities programme.
Basically they're re-opening some of the summer activities to give people things to do.
If anyone wants the full programme email or pm me!
Les Gets have been offering the delights of trips to the cheese factory, the goat farm and the mechanical musical instrument museum. I can't wait! Basically they're re-opening some of the summer activities to give people things to do.

Don't forget to visit the pottery and the snail farm...the fun just continues! On a more serious note, how about parapenting? is about £80 but well worth it.
I was due to go to Verbier this week, then changed to boxing day as there are several pistes open but been advised by a friend who lives there not to bother unless there is a massive pre christmas dump for miles around as people are travelling in from other resorts and 'ruining our snow'
On all the main news story's today snow is sure throughout Europe its the worst since 1988:89 season with more grass than snow at most resorts.
Also they are restricting lift passes so tour operators get it did lest followed by I guess what's left for those who live there and then those who buy flights hotels and skiing all seperate
They are expecting Xmas and New Years skiing revenue over all Europe to be down 30% due to this issue.
Not good at all especially with the bumper year last year.
We need cold weather so at least the snow cannons can be put on and lots of heave snow.

although we're not off till the 3rd, I'm seriously considering going to Val Thorens instead of the one we have booked in Les Gets. It may cost about £400 between four of us in cancellation fees and a longer drive, but snow is what we'going for!

We have had rubbish snow for the last 5 years so feel for the people booked in for Christmas!
This year we have resisted the temptation book early and have all agreed to book once the snow arrives.
Have you noticed that the season has been moving backwards for a number of years ie now mid Jan onwards to mid April This year we have resisted the temptation book early and have all agreed to book once the snow arrives.
I guess Sweden Finland Iceland (Russia) Canada and Northern USA or Japan are the options available - all at significantly more £ than the Alps.
