This one is in Le Praz less than 5 mins from the lift station

They have 3 small chalets , all close together

They also have a lot of chalets in La Plagne , tried it once but didn't like the skiing at all.

Haha, luxury private transfer included too biggrin

They aren't luxury chalets , but they are clean and decent. Food is excellent as are the staff.

One of the La Plagne chalets has a sauna, that's where the owner is based for the season, 83 years old and skiis most days , all day. Great guy , used to be a speedway promoter and rider at Hackney
The year I went to that chalet ,some kid called Tai Woffendon was there spouting that he would be Speedway world champion one day , the very next year he delivered !

I go with my 30yr old son and his mates , we have a great time and have never wanted for anything there.

Wait another week and their lowest price will be £299 !

Looks like I'm out of action for a few weeks! frown
Binned it and Twisted my knee night skiing on Wednesday.
I can put weight on it, but it's a bit tender either side of the knee cap!
My own fault really trying to keep up with the locals from work, whilst practicing for the company ski race on Friday.
Atleast the upside is - our apartment is currently sitting in a complete white out/snow cloud.

Just got back from a week in Champoluc, Italy. Plenty of snow (snowed on/off all week) and excellent skiing. Very cheap. Very good hotel with Skitotal.

Anyone got any contacts for last minute accommodation in Portes due Soleil (preferably Morzine)? Heading out there on Saturday for a week. Four adults. Happy with self catering apartments.

Not for self catering, but I have stayed with Jack & Jill Holidays a few times and they are very good. Chalets a notch above usual standard, and good service. Their chalets are not particularly central but they will happily run you around in a minibus. Their prices often come down a lot if they have availability last-minute. No connection, just a customer.

Trysil in Norway for us this half term. We can drive it from here (Gothenburg) which means we can take a load of bevvy and bar snacks with us to keep our in resort costs down a bit.

Try Airbnb. They seem to have a fair few options there !

Snowing lightly here in Bourg and managed to find some nice snow in Les Arcs yesterday. Forecasts are showing some big snowfall starting on Thursday and lasting to Sunday, anyone out in the Northern Alps next week is in for a good one. Off piste will be mega dangerous for a while if the predicted snow arrives.

we fly out Friday morning. Back Monday evening. Assuming we can get the car up the hill on Friday afternoon, it's either going to be absolutely epic (we're sticking to the pistes), or absolutely hideous!!!

Going to Meribel on Thursday and returning Sunday with my bro in law then the Saturday after taking the wife and kids for a week in Avoriaz. Kids are 7 ,9 and 9 and we haven't told them. Quite excited to see their faces when they realize what is happening.

We'll be touching down in Geneva in 48 hours and driving up to just past Megeve for 4 day's skiing.

Looking at the forecasts, the snow totals from the storm are absolutely all over the place. Some sites are forecasting upwards of 1.6m to fall Thursday and Friday, others are slightly more pragmatic and forecasting 50 - 60cm.

The drive up the hill is going to be very interesting indeed! For the first time ever, I've paid for CDW excess insurance on the hire car!!!

Slightly jealous - while we we ok, it could have been so much better.

That sort of dump would have been very welcome.

I'm going to ride the Olympic Bobsleigh run which is something I've always wanted to do, I'm also considering trying a tandem paraglide as well, has anyone ever done that?
I've done that bobsleigh run and it was terrific fun smile
Certainly something to remember.
Also done a paraglide, did it from Les Arc side though.
Also highly recommended, pretty traumatic as you ski off the cliff, felt like Bond!
Have fun smile

Do many people drive all the way from the UK?

I'm pretty new to all this and want to just get an idea of the cheapest way to get out on a mountain as many times a year as I can. La Clusaz has been suggested too me, ive had a look at prices but its seems quite expensive.

I'll be traveling on my own and would be happy with self catering or whatever really.

Quite a few people do drive all the way. However, factor in:

  • The tunnel price
  • Cost of tolls (c. £100 each way IIRC)
  • 2 /3 tanks of fuel (last time we drove, the round trip took 6 tanks of fuel!)
TBH, for one person, it's probably cheaper taking an EasyJet / RyanAir and hiring a boggo car or pre-booking a transfer. It costs in for 3 or more people.

I used to drive with a friend although flying was cheaper. The main benefits were avoiding the transfers and the airports as well as being able to stop off when and were we wanted to. We used to drive down on the Friday afternoon/evening, kip in the car and get straight out on the slopes on Staurday, which gave us an extra day on the piste.
