Rather than sitting on my arse between dropping the kids off at school and picking them up I thought I would try to secure a few small courier jobs from the Anyvan website. I have an old diesel Galaxy that is pretty huge without the seats, I won't be moving house for anyone soon but there does seem to be a steady stream of work.

Now my brand new Aviva insurance covers me for business, but not for goods in carriage/haulage. And when I try to get a quote via a comparison website it seems only vans are listed on their number plate database.

My question is thus, is it possible to get van insurance for a car without going to a specialist broker?

If you google "goods in transit insurance" there are loads of companies that will cover you.

Ermm...I think you'll find that Goods in Transit insures the Goods, not the car. It will be tough to find cover, but there are specialist firms out there - a good insurance broker may be your best bet.

It may not cover you for courier work; most policies tend to have exclusions for stuff like carriage of passengers and carriage of goods for reward, or multi-point sales rep. type work.

Specialist advice from a broker is the way forward.

Exactly, the OP already said his car insurance covered him for business use.

Not how I read it. He has business use, excluding driving the car whilst carrying goods or people for hire and reward. So business use excluding courier/haulage/minicabbing.

He's after car insurance that will allow him to work as a courier, he isn't asking about cover for the parcels themselves.

Correctemundo!

This seems to be a bit of a nightmare, may have to speak to a broker as suggested.
