Saw someone on Twitter asking how clean out the virus called "U2" that had just appeared on his iPod biggrin

Having listened to it, there's a good reason why it's free.

In my opinion they've not made a decent album since Pop. I keep on buying them for the occasional good track, but their recent (last 14 years of output!) has been below par.

I'll listen to it a few more times, but I'm not holding much hope so far....

My sentiments entirely. I only want albums in my iTunes library that I chose to be there, thanks, not st that someone else thinks I should have.

It's bad enough being bombarded with emails from Amazon because their monkeyspank cookies detected that you once looked at something similar. I've never bought a U2 album in my life and am not intending to start now either.

I agree!

I've been a U2 fan for years and this is the only album I've taken a real dislike to, it's rubbish! I actually liked the last album as well even though many people don't. I can see why it's free!

Apparently they were paid a massive sum from Apple to do this as a means of getting market penetration in an attempt to get folk interested in coming to their next tour.

Another analogy was it being like your cat leaving you a half chewed mouse in the pantry as a present smile

To be fair, it cost you nowt, you don't have to listen to it, and can't you just delete it?

I'm not moaning about the way in which I've received it, don't care as I can, presumably, delete it if I want to.

I'm not a U2 fan. However, I loved Zooropa, quite possibly because it wasn't like anything they'd usually make. For the same reason I loved the single Invisible which they was released earlier this year and was hoping Songs of Innocence would contain that track and others like it. It would appear not.

If I want a stty album of stty music by a bunch of irritating ageing Irishmen I'll ask for it.

Why couldn't it have been something decent?!

only decent thing I think they have done, and that's more to do with the guest than them

It's an age thing. There are very few writers who can produce anything worthwhile after the age of about 40 (if they are lucky, usually they are not). Paul McCartney is the best songwriter who has ever lived but I can't think of anything decent he's written in the last 4 decades.

I knew he was old but 80?

It wasn't an exact figure, it did say 'if they are lucky', but the point stands anyway.

It is for general sale next month.

You can download it from various torrent site sbut its not available official from any MP3 sites.

U2 are one of my fave bands - the last album was quite good. The last 3 albums have been quite samey - U2 definitley have a sound (which may be code for a lot of songs sound similar). I liek their stuff generall.y

Their peak was Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby - the main thing they have lost them is the pwoer and grittiness in Bonos voice which really limits them.

I agree with an above poster - most artists fade after a few years/decades.
