I'll reserve judgement but I doubt it'll be as good as the original, even though Keanu Wooden Reeves was in it. But Payrick Swayze and Gary Busey made that film. yes

This raises the point as to why remakes, of iconic films, are made in the first place?
It's just laziness by the film industry IMO.

What next. Ghost (2015)?

Hasnt Gerard Butler pulled out of this, Too many actors have been involved in st remakes of class films. I would have thought as an actor they are to be avoided like the plaque.

though Butler leaving has probably helped the film. however if this means going to someone worse, then urghhh :/

Some films just shouldn't be remade.

What's next? The Godfather?

I fking hate "gritty reboots" or whatever they are called. Point Break was a classic film, and I really fail to see what can be added by remaking it. It's a fairly modern movie and hardly reliant on SFX so it's not like it looks dated - it was on TV the other night and looked ok to me.

It's just lazy film making - "Ooh, people loved XXXXX so lets remake that so they can love it again. Saves all that script writing nonsense."

I imagine somewhere in Hollywood there are plans to remake The Sound of Music but to replace all the old st singing with a bit of Urban Grime.

In fact, why stop with movies - the Mona Lisa would luck much better if she had bigger tits and blond hair.

Oh - Please no !
The original still brings goose bumps with the opening music and the waves.
Katherine Bigelow deserves total respect for the original.

As much as I dislike remakes of classic films as the rest of you, I think you guys are missing the point; namely, these remakes (Point Break, Karate Kid etc etc) are not made for those of us that have seen the originals. They're made for an entirely new generation who have no idea that the film they're watching is not the original.

You can call it laziness if you like, but there are only so many stories to be told by Hollywood and if you already have a proven script in the form of a blockbuster from years ago, why not remake it for the next generation?

It's like seeing an ex with her new bloke; you have to accept that she's with someone else now and you have to hang onto the good times she had with YOU i.e. don't go and see the remakes. wink

Since when was Point Break a classic film?? It was just a standard 90s A/B film.

Classic = fondly remembered by fans of Keanu/Swayze/buddy cop films from the 80s/90s/film you grew up having watched when you were too young. Take your pick.

Obviously subjective but for me it's a standout film of the era with a great story and a top cast.

One of my favourites.

Maybe they could change the story by replacing surfing with illegal street racing?
