Or more specifically the light in the speedometer as having spent yet more dosh this week solving poor earthing and lights being on all the time in daylight, the electrician my garage whom they use for wiring jobs still didn't remember to replace the bulb in said speedo despite having dashboard off for three days. So in surely what can't be rocket science do any of you good tvr folk know if its possible to put a new bulb in via the back of the speedo & not have to remove the whole dash? Also is what i assume to be speedometer connection (ie big piece of tubing when you put hand under the dash) also housing the bulb & if so where is bulb holder please ?

Any advice gratefully received and it was nice to meet lots of you tvr classics folk at the Trolleybus Museum last week in the pics taken on another thread here mine was the only white M with a brown stripe. Which as hadn't been on the road since 1993 until April this yr I was delighted to get there and back to Nottingham in one piece, in so far post-rescue it's longest round trip so far.

Yes, you should be able to sort it by reaching behind the dash.

This is a general photo but near enough the same.....

Speedo cable goes to the centre, and the bulb holder will be somewhere to the edge (red), it just pulls out.

The bulb holder just pulls out pop your had up and usually the wire is long enough to hang down and pop a new bulb in you can also pop the speedo off without taking the dash out as well if that easier

It was good to see your car last weekend, I am always pleased when a TVR I haven't seen before turns up. Glad it made the trip safely, hope it encourages you to undertake some more long journeys to spread the Pre 1980s TVR love.

It should be perfectly possible to change the bulb in the speedo without removing the entire dashboard. Even if you can't change the bulb with it in situ, it should be easy to remove the clock from the dashboard by undoing the nuts on the bracket that hold it in place and then pull the dial forward. Actually, easy is a relative term, you may need double jointed wrists, a torch, a mirror, and a dictionary of swear words - but I don't see why it should be impossible.

Oliver.

Some more info - I've seen bulbholders with both power and earth wires on them, and bulbholders with just one wire. If you have a bulbholder with only one wire, then the case of the speedo/gauge must be earthed with a separate wire, normally it will be attached to one of the two posts (on the edge) which hold the gauge in the dashboard. They can come loose and then bulb will flicker or not light up at all. It's a bit of a pain to get at but worth a check if bulb itself looks OK
