It is the most annoying thing parking disputes. At our first home in Barnsley, the street was nice with everyone having a drive, however if anyone parked on the road outside whilst visiting, a neighbour opposite would go ape, for no reason.
One day he reversed into the next door neighbours BIL's car, thought no one was looking so got out stuck the bit back on and drove off. My wife had seen it so reported this and the st hit the fan. He then wrote to all of the houses opposite saying that if he could not pull over to our side of the road to sweep into his drive he would not be responsible for any further damage.
I spoke with the rest of the neighbours, who hated him and told them what I was going to do if he continued.
He did so I borrowed from work the oldest sttiest breakdown truck we had, parked it opposite his home (but not obstructing his entrance at all) and went and told him I was going away for a week and to run into it as often as he wanted.
When I came back and moved the truck the problem went away for all of us.

It's not illegal to park outside someone house. It is a civil matter if someone is getting shirty about you parking outside their house on the street AS LONG AS there ISN'T a dropped kurb. It is illegal to park on the road next to a dropped kurb. Even if you are parking your car on the road in front of your drive way, if you are blocking a dropped kurb you are breaking the law and can be done. I assume this is the offence the Audi driver got in the blocked in photo above

Whilst I have a driveway large enough for my two cars, occasionally I need to leave one or both of them on the street (e.g. when pressure washing the drive). I make an effort not to park them in an inconsiderate manner and expect that others act the same way. Luckily though, there has only been the odd occasion where someone's parked badly (most of the time it's "accidental" because they're a bit dim rather than doing anything out of spite) and we've never had any trouble. After reading this thread, some of the idiots described would drive me mad and I sympathise for those of you that have to deal with the cretins.

Many years ago everyone worked togther and kept their street tidy, even sweeping their bit of pavement. If anyone bought a car they respected their neighbours by not leaving it cluttering the street, if ncessary renting a lock up nearby

What's happened?

Agreed, very much agreed. You may think you are clever or funny, but all you are doing is making your home life a misery. Get a grip, get a life, get a personality, get outside and talk to these people.

You will be amazed how personable they are if you talk to them about your 'problem' with their parking.
Some you just can't talk or hint to. I've had a dizzie blond( across a narrow road) who thinks that as she's been been living there longer than me, she has parking rights, which means that ,more importantly emergency services have problems. I've tried being reasonable- waste of time. i've parked legally(all four wheels on road), she comes home and parks on pavement. I've even had her direct truck drivers to me to ask me to move after she's come in and blocked access to anything larger than a car. most times I park on the pavement, but then she decides that the road is her parking place, so for a while,I park on the . Last time we had this problem ,I parked legally with all four on road, and she abandoned hers leaving room for nothing else than a car to pass.WHOOPS, school bus had problems. I got the kids deputation knocking, which I ignored, and eventually Blondie had to get out and move. Since then - no problems. Then again, Blondie's son is another pain. At one time my son rented a house next to hers and I parked my SORN'D car in his drive. It became a parking place for his car. I'd no problems as I had the use of my daughters scrapper which I parked on mine. Then it went, and I asked son & his GF to give e & daughter the courtesy of leaving one space clear, as my GS was slightly retarded and we felt he needed space close to ours.Reply - "F**K OFF, we park where we like". And next day, he parked over my son's dropped kerb, and she over my drive. Something little git forgot was that he'd made too many enemies and next day GF had some flat tyres.Strangely enough, him and his mates and harem don't block my drive any more.

What was the nature of the ticket? I thought that the police weren't interested in parking disputes.
I have a large wall outside my property with gates to the road. They had parked cross my gates so I could not leave. It was a £30 fine IIRC.

Funnily enough I witnessed an act of complete and utter tttery this weekend. Went to a local beer festival - parking is always tight - its a small village. Few moody looking ex-council houses on the outskirts, go to park as someone is leaving the space outside their house, hoody wearing 40 odd year old senior chav avec roll-up is loading an ancient scenic with his huge tracksuit wearing wife/girlfriend/benefits cheat and taking ages as I've now stopped and am indicating to reverse back into the space - traffic now blocked both ways. Mrs Tiga jumps out and asks if he's leaving. "Yeah I am, but you're not fking parking here, its mine" was the response, he then moves just out of the space, gets out, and removes half a sofa from his front garden, which he then places on the road to stop us. Unusual.

The sofa went back in the garden as soon as he went round the corner.

Had this with an ex gf. She parked round the corner as there was no space out the front (permit parking area). Only for the chap who's house she parked outside to come knock on the door and ask for it to be moved (permits have the address allocated to).

Outside his house is a bay long enough for 2 cars, he parks right outside his front door in the middle of the bay. It does make my chuckle when I see other cars parked in this area and the street full with no other parking spots left.

Makes me glad to live where we do. Private road, on-street parking and everyone gets along fine, parking only outside their own houses. The one time anyone did have an issue was when a mate parked outside their house for a few hours. We spoke about, I bought them a bottle of something to apologise.

But then I realise this speaking to neighbours is an alien thing to a lot of people.

Thank god the smallest properties in my road are 5 acres, with a hundred yards frontage to park on, if ever they fill their paddock with cars.

When my son & his wife move into my granny flat next month, for a few months, we'll have 7 cars to park, & they will be no problem.

This was the only post in the thread I didn't read! I got to the word "blond" and just moved to the next post. I could instantly tell it was going to be a load of badly written rubbish!

I live in a rather nice close, we have 2 cars, as do most people, we park on our drive, our immediate neighbor doesn't drive and allows us to do whatever we want with the drive (they are joined, no fence) but I never park there, I will occasionally block it if we have visitors etc.

Last year I bought a new car and had issues, so it stayed on my drive whilst I used the old car and parked on the road (outside my house)

Problem is if 1 person parks outside their house then nobody else can, visitors have to park on the entrance to the close etc. Neighbor's are all nice nothing bad got said, they all new the issues I had with the new car (like I said, nice neighbors we all talk).

Roll on a month and a new neighbor who had been renting out his house has moved back to sell it, two cars (used to be 3) but a drive long enough to fit 3 long saloons. I parked my car up on the road as I did (went on for 2 months whilst trading standards investigated) and the new neighbor parks right beside me, essentially blocking the 4 other neighbors access to their driveways. I didn't know who's car it was at the time so moved mine down the road, same thing happened a few times and I started using next door neighbors drive. Eventually he started parking his cars on his drive.

If anybody had visitors he would go out to the shop, come back and block the road, regardless who it was. His parking went downhill and actually had a scuffle with his immediate neighbor.

Somehow he started parking like a decent person after a bin wagon reversed over another neighbors drive smashing their car before continuing into his wife's brand new car, every so often he still parks like a territorial dick, but thankfully it looks like he's now sold his house.

Where I used to live was a paid car park, yearly fee etc. Every Sunday night I would return from my weekend away and find no space available, it was a free for all car park so I never knew who had taken my space. I would call the management and be allowed to park outside my flat, block the bins but would have to move it early (never a problem) One night I didn't have an answer from management so parked in the most dickish way in the carpark, Blocking around 9 cars in. I was woken up by management asking me to move my car as people had complained, somehow they managed to get someone down to enforce parking and actually clamped 2 cars

Private road here as well - So I own the road outside my house.

We have 4 cars - 2 outside the house - 1 in the garage (blocked in by one of the outside the house cars) and another parked away from the house. Woe betide if one of my car juts just a few inches into my neighbours 'space' even though he doesn't even use it and there is about 4 feet of wall before I start to block his driveway.

You guys have it easy. Crazy cat lady across the road from me once complained about me parking outside my own house as her daughter was an artist and liked to paint my hedge. Apparently the view was obscured by my car. I was tempted to argue that despite being none of her effing business, the car in question was a very nice Alfa 159 and therefore far more worthy of a painting than the scrappy snail-ridded hedge. However I was in a hurry so parked there anyway and ignored her.

Later I removed said hedge (removing two metric tonnes of cat st in the process) and put in a parking space. This was apparently a terrible crime as not only had I removed the highly covetable artistic hedge, I had inadvertently removed the place her cats like to go to in the evening. The "Cat Disco" as she liked to refer to it. After she had complained to the residents association and the council, neither of whom gave two sts, she has taken to simply glaring at me.

If anyone has a large and decrepit caravan, I'd love to park it there with "Feck Off Crazy Cat Lady" on the side! smile
