Out this morning and came back to the car park to find this:

The guy that did it waited around for me and we exchanged insurance details.

My old Cerb is rare, it's a factory red rose and the only one ever made in Jamaica Blue.

Would Repainting it, for whatever reason, devalue it?

And if so, is it beyond reason to argue this point with his insurance company?

Best wishes

Having it repaired and painted won't really hurt it's value, besides you don't really have a choice do you? Pick your Bodyshop and it'll be as good as new.

Your lucky there are still some decent people around to own up.

It's superficial damage, take plenty of photos before, during repair with bills.

If I were buying; it wouldn't put me off.

Sorry to see that. Most cerbs will have had a front end spray to deal with chips. A small amount of filler and some paint and she'll be better than new.

When getting the quotes for the repair, go to the best specialist sprayer possible for fibreglass repairs, and make very sure whether it will or won't need a full front end respray to get a proper colour match

Very sad, as you have one of the best looking TVRs I've ever seen.

Gutted to see this Aide! Bit of a run of stty luck with it. Good of him to stick about.. Short of a full repaint in another colour a bit of repair work paint will be fine.

As said above you're kinda lucky in that the guy hung around. I hope you weren't to harsh on him.

That'll fix up pukka get the lights blended in as well on his insurance.

Whatever you do, do NOT listen to the insurance company when they say you HAVE to take your car to a repairer on their approved list. They always try this to keep the cost down. Can you imagine it going to the Car Clinic?
As said above, find the absolute best repairer in fibreglass and let him deal with the insurance company.

Absolutely this; here speaks the voice of a bad experience.

Good on the guy to hang around, most wouldn't unfortunately.

Exactly what just came to mind..

Tell the insurance company where it is going and choose the best TVR bodyshop!

Kind words and sound advice, thanks everyone.

The guy had just joined our gun club and it was his first day so I guess it was a bit of a bad day out for him too. A nice guy and fair play for owning up, we sat down and had a cup of tea, he said he didn't know any other members so I said he could join us one Saturday as we meet once a month.

A front end respray, not sure about blending the lights though scratchchin

It's a matter of personal taste, and I own one of the smaller, convertible, RV8 Cerberas with the big round headlights, so what does my opinion matter?

Nowt!

But when mine goes in for its front end respray in November, it is having the blended in speed 6 lights to bring it both up to date and workable after sunset. Personally, I think the "afterthought" pods look like an Essex boy's Corsa mod somewhat less than perfect.

I quite like the lights as they are...well, were. I can't comment on their effectiveness though.

Good luck on getting it repaired. If it gets done properly, it wouldn't put me off buying at all (keep the paperwork & photos though to show you aren't hiding anything). Also, as others have said, fair play on the other party. At least if he's joined your gun club, owning-up is hopefully an indicator that he can be trusted. thumbup

It will make an enormous difference to the value - I am reckoning about 10k - and I will buy it off you now smile

I would take the opportunity to blend the lights in. They look so much better in the flesh than photos

Aide don't worry about having it repainted and affecting the value .. some tvrs were painted by the supplying dealers because the factory paint was so poor, my PDI sheets used to have so much ink on them circling blemishes, not enough paint, bits in the paint etc etc that you could hardly see the white paper itself sometimes. The first owner thought he/she was getting a factory finish job but in fact the car had been blown in or fully repainted before the first owner even got their hands on it.
I suspect there are now very very few tvrs around with full factory paint !
Get it repaired by a known bodyshop , job jobbed smile

You want someone in your gun club whose aim in the carpark is that bad? I suppose they can only improve...
