Evening all im toying with the idea of a new car either being a TVE chimaera or a Porsche 911 so i,l keep with the 911 on this thread.

I have around £12,000 to spend is this a descent enough budget or am i likely to be buying a money pit?
I was hopping to get a pre 89 air cooled 991 but amazed at how much they have rocketed in the last 5 or 6 years.
So im going to be stuck with the later model cars.
Ideally a car that's going to hold its value rather than lose it.

Want a car that's fast, will hold its money all day and not cost a fortune?

Early 996, with the amber lights. Nice basic C2/C4 with great history, reasonably low owners, in good nick and without stella mileage. Should be cheap motoring to boot if she's been looked after.

12K should source a lovely one. Looks great with the OE areokit, and has been around long enough, people don't assume your trying to make it look like an early GT3 smile

Next 911 to rise IMO and the car is starting to look a classic.

EDIT Here you go ..... http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C458000 Bloody lovely

I don't think you ever could get a decent aircooled 911 for that money; I've been looking for years - the odd bargain aside perhaps. Agree an early 996 is the only real option. Hopefully one that doesn't require you to have to fly to Ireland and buy it from the bloke who doesn't own it (I admit it sounds good - don't they all!)!

Don't spend everything you've got on one though. If it does go pop you'll be in trouble.

You'd get a decent chimaera for 8k and have a reserve.
