help needed please

Right, my car has developed a problem. its has started making a throaty sound that is really loud. It only does it under load. the best way of describing it is- it sounds similar to a car does when you remove its air filter or change the standard one for a performance filter. it does it to about 5000 revs then above that the engine noise sounds as it should. I cant hear anything when the car is stationary. And the cars performance seems as it should when giving it a bit of welly.

Loose or split boost hose maybe... hard to spot splits sometimes...

hi Steve, my first thought was a boost hose. But i seem to be making good boost (1.4Bar) surely i would be losing boost if i had a split pipe? unless the turbos are able to overcome the amount of pressure lost?

see if your intercooler has cracked on the side seam

1.4bar. That's an awful lot for a 2.5. What power u running and is this on std turbos?

It's a 3ltr !!!!!

ok my boost gauge might not be accurate and its hard to look at it and keep an eye on the road when the hammer is down lol.
Its 615 horses from memory.

Id be shocked if it was cracked as its a pro alloy one but i will have a good look round it.

Ah, at 615 then u may well be running close to 1.4

We have seen a couple of the pro alloy intercooler split on the high BHP cars !!

ok just had a little look at the intercooler and cant see anything obvious, looking at the welds on the ends etc.
