Why not? It's a great idea.

I'd go for it. I was born in the 1980s and passed my driving test in 2006. The oldest car I've ever driven was a P-reg Proton Persona. I'd love to drive something old (and crap) from 1980s Britain just to get that 1980s vibe which I never experienced.

I daresay, a lot of people would like to do the same, re-live the 1980s all over again.

Hateful things. I had a 1300 Allegro with god-awful vinyl seats, a crap gearbox, drivetrain, 'power unit', dreadful handling etc etc.

A horrible pile of st.

And then I surpassed myself.

I bought a 1750 Equipe.............

Can't believe the website does not have an online booking system for their rental cars. An old-fashioned site for old-fashioned cars! It must cost them customers.

Why, its survived this long, it isnt a threat, you dont have to drive one and it is, for better or worse, part of our motoring heritage.

Weird attitude, the real world isnt a episode of Top Gear.
It's still crap and symbolises why the British Motor Industry went down the toilet, crap car made by workers that couldn't give a toss.

I hear that there is a bit of myth going on about that.. Allegedly, or I could be making it up, a good number of cars are/were more aerodynamic in reverse. smile
Mythbusters tried it on a porsche 928.
And I do believe the myth was busted.. biggrin

I think this is a great idea! I reckon the owner/operator knows they're cack but also that people have fond memories of a dreadful car and would like a nostalgic day or two in an oddball classic. I wish them luck! smile
There is a market for this.

I live in a part of Brum afflicted by hipster kids and have recently seen beardos running around in Maestros, an Austin Princess,a Maxi and several early Metros / Rover 200s.

stty BL boxes are the new fixies it seems.

Why would anyone hand over money to use that hideous POS
Nobody would - it's a viral advertising campaign intended to get people posting links to the company on various car forums. Amazingly clever people will remind us how crap they were (as if we needed reminding) in the hope that bearded and slightly odd people will come along and try to defend it. All the while, the company get's more and more free advertising.

It seems to be working well, so far.

And what of the Mini ?

Its a bit like teenage girls and conservation, cute and fluffy, all for it, wear the t-shirt, anything remotely ugly or unpleasant "KILL IT WITH FIRE", Minis were cute, but st in many ways, Allegros were st and not very cute either, the Allegro shared quite a bit with the Mini, engines, build quality, Hydragas suspension (64 to 71), hideous colours, mouldy interiors, lack of ability to survive rain, galloping rust etc.

I love that people save the old heaps, the ugly ones as well as the cute ones, I like to see Marinas, Ambassadors, Princesses, Triumph Toledos and all the other old tat, most cars were a bit st then, even the good ones.

I had one of them, paid £35 for it as an MOT failure, it had stripy seats and 4 doors, a horrible thing.
