Something on this site, I assume some of the ad/flash content, is freezing my entire browser in Chrome and the only fix is to force quit the application. It doesn't happen with any other sites I view throughout the day.

I'm accessing PH from Safari, which isn't really preferable to use. Bit of a first world problem, I know, but thought I'd flag it up as it's pretty annoying when I navigate to this site by accident (e.g. clicking a Facebook link) and have to close all the windows I'm working on.

Are you on Mac or running Mavericks? I've used Chrome for years and it's been fine up until 2 weeks ago. Only this site though which is weird.

No idea what Mavericks is, so presumably no biggrin

Just a boggo 4 year old Lenovo laptop running Windows 7.

@Mods - worth flagging with the dev team, this doesn't look like an isolated issue.

Works just fine for me on Chrome and Mavericks for the record.

Might be a memory issue, though is hard to diagnose without being able to replicate it, so would be good if you can provide us with some info: system memory, what else is running, hardware of tech to give us a heads up where to start to replicate the problem.

I too am having the same problems. Its only with pistonheads forums and I'm also using a Mac. I'm pretty sure its the ad servers pistonheads are using and looking at the status text on the bottom left of the screen it seems to freeze when resolving host names to external domains (text says "Resolving hosts...").

If one of the mods wants to PM me I can maybe send them some screenshots to help diagnose further.

Very annoying.

This has been happening to me too, always PH, especially after start up but at other times as well.

Same here, I'm running a Macbook and I had to revert to Safari. Everytime I go to any Pistonheads URL Chrome freezes and I have to force quit. I've spent hours trying all sorts to fix but it always happens with Pistonheads. Would love to fix this, its annoying.

Yep, it was doing it all morning, I was hunting the web to find out if this was a Chrome problem and I've just tried it again and its done the same. Loads up the page and it looks like when it tries to load the ads it freezes. If I wait 30 secs or so the Page unresponsive error appears but Chrome is dead, I have to kill it before I can use it again.
No problems with Chrome on my XP PC or Android Mob, just the Mac. I've re-installed Chrome, upgraded OS and tried turning off a few settings, no luck.

PH regularly (at least once every session) crashes chrome on my phone, but it's fine on my laptop. I'm running adblock on my laptop though.

And that's what'll be doing it..

PH crashes the hell out of my browser in the office (no control over browser or plugins), but it works perfectly at home (bar the odd missing post, via Mobile(beta)+Chrome+Adblock+Ghostery)..

I've got Adblock on the laptop I browse PH on, it is only PH that freezes like this though.

Stick Ghostery on there as well, I bet it'll stop it freezing..

Browsing on phone with chrome is fine for me, but on my PC at work it crashes chrome quite often, when looking at the processes it seems one of the chrome tabs I have open (was the geek jokes thread last time) spikes in memory usage to nearly 2gb and sticks there until it is killed.

PC running win7 SP1 64 bit, i7 processor and 16gb Ram.

A few things below if they help...

Processor 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M 1024 MB
Software OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)

I always have the following running:
Photoshop
Indesign
Dreamweaver
Excel
Outlook
Adobe Acrobat Pro
Dropbox
Adobe Creative Cloud
Google Drive
Time Machine

Have always had Chrome running along side these though, only started happening in the last couple of weeks.
