Do they exist?

My current pair now have a nice pair of holes right in the middle of the sole where the balls of my feet are. This after two seasons use.

I move around quite a bit when I ride and the pegs are pretty grippy. Can lead to interesting moments trying to take my foot off the peg.

The local timpson guy says they can't be re-soled as it'll just pop off.

Ideally I would get some that can be re-soled.

fwiw current pair are just like these:

Not found any yet. My two year old Alpine stars have split the stitching all the way around the heel cup.

Don't think I used my RSTs hard enough to compare, and my new Sidi's are just that.

But Sidi's can be resoled e.g. £55;

Most parts on mine are also available online and easy to take apart as they're just screwed in place.

Yeah but Leighz a nice guy and asking a specific question so it's fine.

Go away Scott nobody likes you.

We had a meeting about it.

There were M&S sandwiches.

You weren't invited.

Obviously.

As you talk about seasons I'm assuming that you race...?

The pro racers all have the same problem - they typically hole their soles with the footpegs because of all the concentrated pressure that they put through them.

You'd need something more rugged to last longer but you wouldn't be able to feel much.

My boots (Alt-berg) are into their fifth year and are still superb but then I just commute, don't spend too much time walking around off the bike in them but they do get used most days. Looking at your existing boots they don't look like the sort of thing that would interest you though!

Daytona's seem to be all the rage - massively expensive but maybe longer lasting...?

Daytonas last forever, and in the event they don't they can be refurbished.

Altbergs are supposed to be good too, can't say I was especially impressed by them.

Sidi's, had mine 10 years and they are now truly knackered but they are so comfy I dont want to get a new pair

I have tried to have mine re-soled but cant find anywhere to do it, no even an independant, says they will come off very quickly

I'm not surprised you didn't find anyone with attention to detail like that.

Another one for Sidi's

Mine get used for both commuting and trackdays and seem to last really well. Agree with the concentrated pressure on the soles when racing, but my weak point used to be the front of the sole just beneath the toe slider

SIDI's ...

My B2's are now into six years... soles are worn yes, but they are fine and importantly still keep my feet dry!

I've got new soles for them - but no way of getting them changed! (cobblers wont touch them!)

I have the same boots. 3 years old and about 10000 miles use. They look almost brand new still!

My Alpinestars SMX5s have done over a year of almost daily use in all weather. Slight wear showing to the stitching on the Velcro shin flap, other than that, they should easily do another year or two.

Just bought some Sidi Adventures that I have heard good things about in terms of durability.

Funny enough my best mate bought some SMX5's the same time I bought my SIDI's... he had to change his SMX5's about a year ago as they had fallen apart. He now wears SIDI ... smile

Obviously a big brand is no guarantee of quality control then. Same with most mass produced gear. Hopefully I won't now prove to be the exception with Sidi boots.

I have a pair of Sidi vertebra boots that Have lasted really well. I use the balls of my feet on the pegs, no duck-feet here.

I bought them second hand about 5 years ago and have been worn a fair bit for back roads riding and commuting (no track/racing) in all-weathers. They even keep my feet dry, even though they are not 'Waterproof' ones.

I would definitely buy another pair.

I've had mostly Alpinetars for road and track days and whilst they seem to last reasonably well, the last 3 pairs have had to be replaced because of the zips giving up the ghost.

SIDI seem to be favoured by several - I guess I should give them a chance?

Daytona, I have seen nothing else close, yes, they are expensive, but Road Racers buy them for a reason, and it ain't to look flash.

Another thing, you recover from injury easily when young, but often these come back to haunt you once you hit 40 or 50+ and you have time to regret the foolishness of youth.

I got a pair, almost new on eBay for silly cheap, with a new set of outer boots thrown in.
