Looking to replace several windows in the house (and a side door) to match new ones recently gone into a new extension.

Quick/poor sketch up of what is being quoted for:-

bottom left is not part of the quote (my builder is paying for that one), F are frosted/obscured for the bathrooms.

Style of window:-

For supply/fit/making good/taking away old I've been quoted £4110 all in, is this reasonable?

Many thanks.

We have just paid £4500 for 9 windows. Six of them three panes with two openers, two of two panes with one opener (obscure glass) and a five pane bay with two openers but no doors. All steel reinforced uPVC Rehau frames. If yours are to be all white then that is slightly cheaper than with a rosewood outside.

So, maybe you could get them for a bit less but probably not a lot. Don't know what the door adds on as we kept the old doors.

£150 a window fit them yourself or £250 fitted. Loads of places selling them they're all much the same quality.

Materials wise around £1650.

£270 (3 pane), £160 (2 pane), £120 (1 pane), £350 (door - assuming uPVC)

Man and a lad £200 per day, 2 days max.

£2050.

Indeed. They are Rehau or Silver shield sourced product, so all comparable. Don't fall for the "ours are eco glass" and all that crap - they are all like that now. IME don't get quotes from the big firms (all start at 7k and then 'ring the boss') but use an independent. Also don't pay up front more than a reasonable deposit (say 20%) Get all in writing.

I'd have to agree with this.
Looks like your paying about 2k labour on your quote. So unless they're expecting to have to replace lintels and re render every reveal then it seems fairly high. Just go direct to the people who are making them. I pay between £80 for a small single panel window up to about £300 for a massive multi panel. I would expect a good fitter and labourer to fit those in a day if it's like for like.

I'm in the middle of getting quotes, all from local independents recommended by friends but even then the variation is pretty staggering.

Mine is a smaller job: 2 x upstairs bedroom windows, a kitchen door with adjoining panel window and a set of dining room French doors. Three quotes received for the same job, all completley inclusive of supply/fit/disposal of old woodens frames/10yr guarantee and VAT:

a) £4180 - includes Building regs cert
b) £3880 - FENSA contractor
c) £2865 - FENSA contractor

As far as I can make out the materials used are comparable - (c) was recommended by a mate who had nine(!!!) companies quote. I think they'll be getting the nod this week.

Had a work colleague once who in a period between contracts was offered a job selling DG by his neighbour. He'd never done this before but did his best, and outsold all the others salesmen and also brought in more profit. His policy was to discard all the silly tricks and hard sell, he spent minimal time with the customers, gave them a good deal, got the work and passed it through the system. After a time doing this his neighbour offered him a permanent position, but told him he'd have to change tack. Good salesman said "but aren't your sales up, and (more importantly) profits up?" Neighbour agreed, but still didn't see the point. Good salesman declined the job offer, as he could see the poor outcome.

It is easy to sell to people if you are upfront give people a fair price without all the hype.Obviously his boss neighbour didn't see that, maybe a bit thick.

If there are like the picture (fully Sashed) that is a reasonable quote.
Quite rare to see this but it does look so much better.

Does anyone know how much good wooden Windows would be compared to uPVC?

I know it proably depends on a lot of factors but as a rough like for like would I be looking at 50% more / 100% more etc?

Yes each panel (both those that open or not) do have a full surround/sash.

Now I'm even more confused, some saying the quote is reasonable and others saying its way over. confused

With respect to other posters no one has picked up on this trust me that quote I right.
I am in the trade but don't deal direct with windows but I do generally know about pricing.

I didn't spot that getmecoat

I can't see that that would add £2k though.

I'd still be tempted to get a few prices for the materials only so you can see what you're being charged for labour.

I think the fitting costs for windows and door come to approx. £800.

Was this quote by a company, or a sole trader?

I would imagine you have been quoted for floating mullions, as well as dummy sashes in the fixed panes.
Your quote is slightly high, but not over the top.
You should try and negotiate down to £3800.00, and bare in mind, £633.33 is VAT.
Incidentally, it will be 2 days work for 2 blokes.
