Depends what it was, if I needed the money, if it was going to be worth even more in a few years.

1. Is it a life-changing amount of money that would it help you now? - Sell

2. If its not money that would help you now but the item might appreciate in the future - Ask an expert opinion on the item's chance of changing in value.

3. Don't need the cash and like the item - Keep it

4. Don't need the cash and don't like it - sell if you think you can get the best price now as 2 above.

What is it anyway, am curious? Art?

Even if I wasn't close to them I'd keep it because it must have meant something to them and they thought to leave it to me.

It's unique. So that must be why it's worth something.

We need to know what it is.

A cracking idea to include something like that in my will for a disliked relative - put it in a safety deposit box with instructions on how to access it with the executor.

They might have a couple of days thinking they've been left something valuable hehe

Expensive though.

It needs to be a humidity controlled environment otherwise the fecal matter will dry out and not be smelly when opened.
