Yeah that Lotus certainly worked for him. One thing Kimi always does is surprise me. He looked quick at McLaren if not quite as complete as Mika. When he went to Ferrari I thought he'd struggle to fill Schumacher's shoes a bit, but was hoping he was up to it, but despite the champonship win I think he looked much less effective there. He almost looked like he didn't care anymore, in a sort of Nelson Piquet fashion. Then he hops into a Lotus after a year or two out and I was expecting him to tool around at the back for half a season and then just walk. He did the opposite. Then back to Ferrari.. ok he looks like he has his mojo back (or commitment rather)... can he really give Alonso a bloody nose? Um, no. not really.

But the tie in with Allison might bring the impressive Kimi out again. I never can tell which Kimi is going to turn up. I have to say that, and his economy with words and his do-what-he-wants lifestyle has made me warm to the guy a lot, even though I think Mika did the cool Finn thing better.

LdM may not have had the power (or desire) to influence the Ferarri/Alonso situation in the last weeks of his tenure, but I'd wager that he knew exactly what was going on. Moreover, neither Alonso nor anyone from Ferrari has come out and contradicted LdM's statement.
This
I read somewhere that when LdM knew he was going but was still in charge, he spoke to Alonso and asked if there was anything he could do for him. Alonso asked him to release him from his contract.

The politics are vicious but funny in a way. LdM's parting gift to the boardroom attack was to release the prize asset...

As foundations for a comeback go that is a good start.

Maybe even he couldn't speed up the rate of decline there.

"ALARMA! THE 2015 FERRARI SEEMS SLOW."

So says the headline in the autosprint article. Here's a google translate effort at the article.

A rumor that is to Autosprint from reliable sources casts a disturbing premise on the new Ferrari 666 (code-named Project of the F1 2015). From the early feedback on the model tested in the wind tunnel before and after the simulator shows that the Ferrari next year proved to be yet slower than the current model.

This news comes from an article published in the same name Autosprint 42 on newsstands Tuesday, October 21 that addresses the topic in more detail.

We're not talking about the real car, of course, because it has not yet been built and installed, but the first results obtained from the wind tunnel on the 60% scale model that depicts the new car. Findings that were then transferred to the simulator where the car proved virtually, was slower than the current F14 T.

We can assume that the comparison has been done especially on the aerodynamic because the model in the simulator certainly can not have the technical improvements in the study phase on the turbo engine and electrical components. Of course the news is not comforting. It confirms the rumors last month that Alonso (and then also to Vettel) had been informally told not to expect a significant change in competitiveness in 2015, which would have also influenced his decision to give up the contract already signed with Maranello .

The Ferrari 2015 which we speak is the first true single-seater Ferrari born born under the technical direction of James Allison (the design of the frame is always Tombazis). For now it is summarily identified by the initials "666" is the code name for the project that sequentially follows the construction of F1 over the years while the final name will be established only in January on the occasion of the official launch.

Project 666 - that's a bold choice of project designation.

Alonso could give Vettel an aero-tow during Q3 at Monza. Or get stroppy after the call "Sebastian is faster than you". Or Alonso could offer Vettel a one-of-a-kind all-new front wing at a race weekend.

What's the smiley for I'm being deeply sarcastic?

Who said anything about Vettel winning a fifth? Allegedly Alonso was reminded he was an employee and he's stated he will "do what is best for Ferrari". That likely means leaving. Could equally mean he stays to do the best for Ferrari to win the WCC.

And I don't buy the importance of Alonso wanting a 3rd. It's as if people think that makes him more driven to succeed than those that want their 1st, Hamilton who wants his 2nd or Vettel who wants to beat Schumacher's seven.

If Alonso goes to McLaren he isn't going to win a 3rd in 2015. He *might* in 2016 or later.

Roll on Austin!

Mansell and Hill both won titles in their late 30s and it's a fair bet that Schumacher, had he been driving for Merc this year, would've been in the hunt for the title.

I'm sureAlonso feels that, given equal equipment, he could beat Vettel. Any F1 driver that thinks he's not as good as his teammate has lost it.
