Latest rumour..... Alonso to join Audi F1 in 2016 after they've withdrawn from Le Mans and DTM.

^^^^ just read that about Audi.

The interesting thing in there is the suggestion that it's likely to an Audi with Red Bull sponsorship. That'll mean big changes at Red Bull - but then the winning streak there has finished, Newey is onto other things, so maybe the Mateschitz millions will be spent as a "mere" sponsor.

I doubt that F1 by 2016 will look at all like it does now.

I think it would be cool one day if the Korean powerhouse of Hyundai/Kia entered F1. They have the means and the ambition.

Because, unlike Audi, BMW have "been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, bought the team, sold the team, sold the t-shirts". smile

It is all about global branding, if Audi is seen to be streaming ahead - BMW will come in, I expect.

Hmm, there's a thought. Audi buy Torro Rosso (and Mateschitz has said he would sell if the right buyer came along) and get Red Bull Sponsorship as part of the deal?

So is Alonso going to audi for one crack at le mans, then into F1 in 2016???

Audi know how to win races, and VW have done very well in F3. Could be a real strong challenge

And they have proven reliability with their 7 year warranty

Exactly this. Imagine if Audi could boast both Le Mans and F1 titles? Munich would go into meltdown...

It makes no difference to me, there's no real link between any of the teams and road cars. For instance, maclaren's performance should put me right off their road cars, but i'm keen.

Audi could spend a billion and get loads of titles. The result would be some edition of diesel a4 with f1 logos on the leather...

Perhaps not to you, but they don't do anything for the hell of it.

Apropos of nothing, I think Maclaren's performance has been rather better than McLaren's in recent years, so should shirley have provided a modest halo effect wink.

F1 is much harder than Sports cars.

VW could easily spend Billions and come away with nothing. See Toyota / BMW.

Good to see a new entrant but people are talking as if Audi are going to win everything.

And the reps who drive them would have even more sense of entitlement on the roads.

I see that the Lotus sponsor Burn is playing silly buggers by superimposing Fred's head on a set of Black & Gold race overalls saying he would look good in them next year!!

Interesting.

Frankly i don't care so as long Jensn doesn't loose his drive to Fred.

Also it has been reported that Ferrari are facing having to pay Fred £50 million for the remainder of his contract.
