But then that was a different era. Each brings their own beauty.

Mine:

Although I did feel the silver & red Maccas looked good too if not quite as iconic as the white & red.
smile

Edit- I also think the shape of the early 90's cars is as they should be cool

This thread may be going a bit off-piste?

I'd have to say this one, for the memories of me first watching F1.

Aaaand this one just because I think it's a beautiful car. Might not go down as one of the classic liveries of F1, next to the JPS Lotus or the Marlboro McLarens, but I loved the colour scheme and it'll always hold a special place for me.

(And it's Alonso, so I'm keeping it relevant to the thread!)

It is.

But it just got interesting again!

And let's not forget the Jordan/7UP. The way the airbox came forward....

Since we seem to have switched to nostalgia mood (I think eveyone is fed up with this ultra silly season TBH, so bring it on)....Before my time, but wobble

and

Not pretty, but certainly memorable and innovative (and quick!)

I always thought this made more sense, by getting rid of the drag of those huge rear wheels

Is there no one old enough to appreciate the beauty of a race car unadorned with wings and other accoutrements?

I give you the Gurney Weslake Eagle biggrin

You're all wrong - it's the Brabham BT49. I even had a duvet and pillow cover set of it. biggrin

I thought that looked great until the BT52 turned up.

This was from the era when I started watching F1, though the image I really associate with my first years watching the sport is Prost in a McLaren MP4/2 with number 7 on the nose.

^^^^ I watched the Sky Gordon Murray programme a while back, and he was talking about designing F1 cars. And the reason that car is shaped like that. Fascinating stuff.

I remember an interview with patrick head who reckonned in the rain, the first rear wheel would dry the track allowing the second to be full slick. V impressive lap times in the wet

Speculation over on F1 technical that the team principal of McLaren-Honda will stand behind a podium at the MTC on 1st Dec to announce the 2015 driver line up. And that the team principal will no longer be Ron Dennis, but Ross Brawn.

It's a nice idea, Ron back to automotive and chairman, and Ross back to winning. I suspect it would keep the Bahrainians and Honda happy.

Would also side-step the possibility of Ron and Alonso going head-to-head.

But they have Boullier as a buffer anyway?

One of the fascinating things about F1, I think, is that iconic cars keep turning up.

In my time I've followed/been a fan of Lotus, Brabham and McLaren. Lotus with the 21, 25, 49 and 72: each one lovely to look at. Brabham: a whole list there, each beautifully prepared, the 54 being a particular favourite of mine but I could be convinced for any other one. Even the failures, like the 55, were stunning.

As a McLaren fan from the start of MP4 the MP4/4 has never been bettered but there were some cars that could claim to be its equal, the /13 being a slot-in for that.

Fans of other teams or drivers will have their favourites. We are seeing LH and NR drive a car which, in a few years time, fans will look back on and say how dramatic it was.
