best advice to stop my Golden pulling on his lead
Discussion
2 options
1. Get a nose holter so when he pulls it naturally pulls his head around, they lead by their nose so he will stop hopefully.
2. Long lead, start the walk and as he pulls let him go and at the same time let go of the excess lead and turn and start walking the other way. dont jar the lead to hard when he gets to the end of it and he will naturally turn and do the same so quickly gather up the excess lead and do the same when he starts pulling again. Keep doing this (you get nowhere distance wise!) till he gets bored and starts taking notice of what way you are going. Took our Chug about 15 turns the first time but once they get the idea and you reinforce it they look to see what your doing and follow suite just in case you turn. Think the "Dog Wisperer" did it a few years ago.

Have a 9 month old Golden and he is great - comes back pretty well but gets excited on the first part of the walk and pulls.
Now every time he pulls I just stop. this has worked a bit, now want to really put an end to it.
Any suggestions, thanks
Nic
Maybe I'm reading a bit too much into this but is the lead pulling just the most obvious manifestation of a dog that's not under control. Now every time he pulls I just stop. this has worked a bit, now want to really put an end to it.

I would ask yourself - do you understand how a dog learns?
Do you realise why he is pulling?
The suggestions above are fixes that will work if you're consistent.
Anyone who walks the dog will have to abide by the same rules.
There are some good videos on youtube
You may have to go back to basics around the house and in the garden before venturing out further
You both might benefit from some 1:1 advice from a trainer. He might benefit from gun dog training even if you've no intention of working him
If you get decent all round control then you only need the lead when necessary or required by law
