Any help here would be much appreciated after local stealers mechanic listened and was stumped.
I have a creak, crack type noise emanating from my v8v front end. If I turn the wheels at standstill it happens at full lock and is a sharp click type noise like hard plastic snapping.
When moving it becomes more of a creak but only happens when you load/add more/less turn to the steering. Over speed bumps in a straight line it is completely silent.
I have had a good pull on the front wishbones. No play.
The noise cannot be replicated on jacks to get underneath as the load is removed from the front wheels.

Help please because it is very embarrassing and I'm at the point where I would rather be using the family car than my Aston.

Shouldn't be hard to replicate on a lift.

Any MOT garage will have ramps with plates for under the front wheels.
Just stick it up with someone in to turn the steering - should be obvious where the noise comes from.
An MOT tester will know exactly what steering/suspension parts it is likely to be.

Good luck getting it sorted!

Even if the suspension bushes were completely knackered, you wouldn't be able to tell by pulling them about - need a lever to see any movement at all.

Noted. The wheels have been tested for play with the appropriate bar. No play. Again the noise occurs whilst adjusting the steering whilst loaded I.e decelerating, downhill corner etc.
Visually inspected the sway bar bushes and seem ok.

You said you get a clack when turning to full lock at standstill - that sounds straightforward to investigate while up on a ramp.
I would suspect that whatever causes that is related to the creaking on the move.

It sounds like a dry/worn balljoint, probably on one of the uprights (hub carrier).

Sounds stupid and probably not the obvious answer but take all your calipers off and re-fit them. I had pad sensors, pad clips and all sorts making noises on mine that sounded not too disimilar to what you are describing!

Clarky, not an obvious fix but often the handbrake pads can make a hell of a racket. Had this with mine recently, and it sounds like it's coming from the front but isn't, it's just that the windows happen to be there! Either handbrake calliper ratchet system worn out or needs adjusting. Mine? All I did was give the calipers a real good jet wash and the noise went away, obviously some build up there. Worth a punt anyway

Gents, thanks for your fast replies. I initially thought dry ball joint as well but having just spent a weeks worth of spare time sorting caster, camber arms, arb bushes, springs, discs and pads on the wife's CLK I'm not so sure now. Hers sounded like a choir of church mice at the slightest sniff of a pot hole whereas the aston is silent over any undulations, speed humps etc and only creaks on load.
I have the arb bushes on the 997 and belts on two of my duc's this weekend but after that I think it's going to have to be disassemble, lubricate and reassemble all ball joints and bushes on the front end just to rule it out.

I had a similar issue on my 57 V8V. Basically there was a "clicking / winding-up" noise coming from the front tyres when steering towards a full lock. The lower the speed, the more pronounced the noise. The noise would come up also when braking. If this sounds like the issue then it was identified as a "subframe issue" with the dealers. Their resolution was a full clean of the subframe (had to be done twice to almost completely eliminate the noise), however this meant that -being wear&tear- it would not have been covered under warranty had it not been an issue since delivery. Hope this helps!

We'll that sounds very similar to what I'm experiencing. Thanks.
By clean of the subframe what did this entail please?
