With the arrival of a few threads on classic Minis I decided it was about time to get a bit of a thread going for this car. Bit of a back story first. Back when god was a boy, my father rallied these for about 23 years until my eldest brother was born, he then took a break until now 23 years later. Part of the reason I've put off starting this thread was because of the shear length of time we have taken to get to this stage. By my count we've been stripping/building for the last 10 years, half of my life laugh. We started when I was in primary school and I'm now in final year in college and we've gone through at least 5 cars thinking about it. But last Monday, we finally lifted the engine in and on Tuesday after a day of trying, something happened which I really believed would never happen, the bloody thing coughed into glorious life! This is the second competition Mini we've had as the other which we'd plan on using was rotten and it actually worked out cheaper to buy another half finished car then to repair the shell. Both were racing Minis which we had planned on turning into tarmac rally cars. The car as it stands now is Tartan red with a black roof and arches but that is likely to change to an off white roof and chrome arches and bumper. It has a full 1275 racing Oselli engine with 45 Weber DCOE mounted on a Downtown long inlet manifold with a large valve MED head. The only thing now is that due to the length of time this build has taken I've many pictures but I don't really remember what we were doing at the time of them all laugh. Also, it may be obvious but this is my first build up from the ground so has been a learning curve for me so if something from above doesn't seem to make sense then I've probably made a mistake! My father and his friend are the knowledgeable ones!!
Well anyway pictures of the second car before we started working on it, I'll take a few of whats left of the other car tomorrow. smile Excuse the quality of the pictures, need to get an SLR.

And some of its history!

And a special thanks to Ray Cunningham at Galway Mini Centre with whom none of this would have been possible! thumbup
