I was staying at the Premier Inn next to the magic roundabout in Hemel Riverside a couple of weeks back for work. I’d had a long drive through lots of accidents and roadwork’s and got to Hemel late on. I could see the hotel but as its part of a shopping complex, I couldn’t see an obvious place to park. (I later found out you have to use the shopping complex multi-story car park and get your ticket stamped at reception.) Anyway, I digress…

So whilst driving around looking to park up, I accidentally drove down a street which was road marked (after I turned down it) for busses and taxis only. A genuine mistake on my behalf and I didn’t see any signs other than the road markings which was too late.

Anyway, I was using a pool car from work. Do you think my HR department will be getting a letter from the authorities with a sheepish photo of me, demanding fine payment or do you think I’ll be OK?

I'd be surprised...I don't recall seeing any cameras in that area of Hemel

Yes, there are cameras and yes, you are likely to be fined. I wanted to contest it when I received my ticket due to a lack of signage. I would never have entered the road if I'd have known. As the lease company paid straight away, I wasn't allowed to contest.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm exactly the same, I wasn't trying to gain any advantage (it was late, the shops were shut and traffic wasn't busy). It was a genuine mistake. Looks like a possible fine for my company which will be taken from my salary :-(

Interesting. I wonder if they've put better signage up in the meantime as a result which I just didn't see.
