So I'm currently using Mozilla Thunderbird as my email program, with email from my domain name being forwarded to it.

I.e. info@mydomainname.co.uk are being forwarded to a gmail account, that Thunderbird is set up to receive.

I have also set up Thunderbird with an identity(?) that says the emails are from my company, with the 'reply-to' address as info@mydomainname.co.uk....

My question is though - How do I make emails I send at least appear to come from my domain name email address, i.e. info@mydomainname.co.uk ? At the moment, my gmail address is shown as the 'from' address.

Hope that all makes sense & TIA!

It does. You can send on behalf of, but really - why go through Gmail, are you scrubbing email using Gmails malware servers, or just because you can? There'd be nowt stopping you from setting up Thunderbird as an IMAP client for your domain

ETA - having re-read that, you might not have put an smtp server in Thunderbird so you can send from/receive from your domain directly

Cheers for that Andy.

Basically, I was using the Gmail account only beacuse I thought I needed too, for the SMTP / POP servers.

I don't really need to use the Gmail account. I wouldn't know how to configure Thunderbird to send and receive mail directly from my domain name email address.

Just had a look at the control panel of my domain name provider. They let me forward email sent to info@mydomainname.co.uk, but can't see how I would send directly from this address..?

I just took a look at mine. If I want to use SSL (more secure) then I need to use mail.gridhost3.something something

If I dont want to use SSL (less secure) I just use smtp.mydomain.co.uk on port 25

It should be in there somewhere! If all else fails, just tell us who your hosting provider is, the info will be around somewhere

If you log into your gmail account on the web, and go into settings, you can add your domainname.co.uk account as an alias so that gmail will send as if it comes from that when you use web or email client.

It sends an email to get you to confirm that you own the account, and then activates it.

If you sign up for Google Apps, then you can use your own domain name with your Google Apps Gmail account.

Right, so I think my problem lies with the fact my domain provider, Easyspace, are only providing a forwarding service.

I don't have any server details from them.

Tried going into Gmail webmail account > settings > send mail as, but it wants an SMTP server for my domain name. I haven't got one. The website is hosted through Hibu, who don't provide email forwarding.

Do you have access to your Easyspace domain MX records? If so, you can sign-up for Google Apps, and update your domain MX records to point to Gmail. This is what I do.

Then any emails will be from you@yourdomain.co.uk

Just checked on the Easyspace website, and you do have access to your MX records.
