Polish chequer plate aluminium

I acquired some 3mm chequer plate aluminium cheaply. I'm happy enough with it as only for the trailer....
The face that doesn't have the five bar tread, I would have thought would look like smooth aluminium but it does not, you can clearly see the five bar design outlines all over it, can these be polished out...
I also have a large score on one of my cuts, it is also on the opposite side of the five bar...
The five bar side is really good, no real marks or anything, there is one small rust mark, is this cause for concern, I though aluminium didn't rust
