Autosport said:
Jack Miller will jump from Moto3 to MotoGP in 2015 after signing a three-year contract with Honda.

After a series of giant killing performance in Moto3 this season - which he currently leads nine points ahead of Marc Marquez's younger brother Alex - the 19-year-old Australian has been tipped as a star of the future by Honda.

Miller will be joining the Ducati-departing Cal Crutchlow at LCR Honda next season and becomes the first rider to move from the lowest grand prix class to MotoGP since Leon Haslam in 2001.

"I am very happy to make the leap up to MotoGP next year, especially because I will do so alongside HRC," said Miller.

"It's a dream come true; I think that every rider would like to race at the highest level in the world championship with Honda.

"It is certainly a big jump from Moto3 to MotoGP, but I am convinced that we are ready and that, step-by-step, learning every day, we can do a great job."

LCR team boss Lucio Cecchinello added: "Without doubt this is a very exciting project and a completely new challenge for us.

"We do believe that Jack will be a future strong performer in the premier class due to his undeniable talent, motivation and driver.

"For sure he will need time to learn how to ride a 1000cc machine but there is no rush, and next year will just be a learning season for him in the class."

Miller is expected to work with crew chief Cristian Gabbarini, who was Casey Stoner's chief engineer at Ducati and Honda between 2007 and 2012, and, like Miller, Stoner spent his first MotoGP season at LCR.

Miller was also involved in a contract row earlier this season when the Marc VDS team insisted it had a binding deal to run him in Moto2 in 2015, which he disputed.
It will be very interesting to see how he gets on.

I do wonder if it's too big a step, he's not exactly destroying the Moto3 field.

Is that a production Honda or a factory Honda (same as Crutchlow?)

The championship is Alex Marquez's for the taking.

A bad to mediocre year awaits him I reckon. And he'll certainly have to reign in his 'attitude' in the company he will be keeping

I think the parallels with Stoner are clear. Can't wait to see the testing start.

KTM not the best Moto3 bike is it? Where's his team mate?

I know you're stating that it's a big step up, but surely Moto 3 bikes produce more than 50bhp?

A factory spec KTM makes around 68, the redline ktm moto3 bikes in bsb have 51....

No doubt he's got it in him to ride the thing, but it will be interesting to see just how well he can get on with it.

Really? That's a hell of a disadvantage on such a small bike

I'm looking forward to seeing him next season. No doubt some will take an instant dislike to him because he's an Aussie. I just want to see some new blood getting a ride instead of just swapping rides.

Aye. With this and redding on a good bike it should be interesting.

The more direct comparison is with Garry McCoy who went from 125GP straight into 500GP.

If I remember correctly, he wasn't exactly scared of the throttle was he?

If the KTM is such an inferior bike, why has it won the last 3 Moto-3 titles? Could it just be that Honda have now decided to take Moto 3 very seriously again?

Paddock politics, Moto3 was designed with a 'price cap' theorised, however KTM blew that out the water, Honda then said last year they would build a new bike, dubbed 'The KTM Killer', it debut' lat in testing this year and was well of the pace the first few rounds, however as Rins, Marquez & Vazquez etc have got to grips with it, its become clear HRC were not lying when they called it what they did.

PS, agree on your point ref McCoy, however the gap is a lot bigger between Moto3 & MotoGP than 125 to 500's

Most likely on second thought, they were 50 odd when they started off as a class, so 68 for a factory one today as per Lincsblokey's post makes sense.

But regardless of 50, 60 or 70 bhp it is certainly a massive step up.

It scares me that something circa 60hp can do these lap times. I want a go on one!
