Bosses complaining when you go for a st. If it takes half an hour, it takes half an hour. What, do they want you taking sick leave for a strained sphincter? I doubt it.

  • Batteries constantly running out on the Xbox remote
  • Door to door salesmen always waking you up early
  • Loads of screaming children when the wife's off work and invites her friends round
Joys of working from home.

  • If you come in to work later than the average, no matter what time you leave, or how many hours you may put in, you are seen as a slacker
  • Leaving before 5:30pm will invariably garner some sort of smirk comment of 'half-day' or 'nice of you to pop in'
  • Working long hours is seen as more committed that working smart and completing tasks quickly and efficiently
...
hehe you need to find a new job.

I've had a similar thing to this before... In my old job, due to hitting traffic on the way back from Tesco's I finished my lunch break 10 minutes later than I should have. No worries I thought, I'll just work a bit harder to make up the extra time. Well, before I know it I'm in the boardroom with my manager who is scolding me for coming up late and how its unaceptable blah blah blah. I pointed out to him that for the last 9 months I'd been coming in an hour early and leaving 2 hours late without claiming any overtime, then told him (in a nice way) that in future I wouldn't ever be back late from lunch, nor would I ever be putting in extra hours again.

Shortly after I got a new job. It's a shame really, he of all people knew how hard I worked, he sat next to me and also came in/left early with me...

Most office environments are...I work for an American company where treating people like st is normal. Works both ways though...I don't give a st about the company either.

Work in an office too, however everyone seems to be on the same page here :-)

Iguess you're right, I definitley feel a sense of pride here, as the Company genuinley do look after you.

Fag breaks 3-4 times a day which seems to be accepted by the bosses and easily adds up to at least a hour a day which i reckon works out at 2 days a month on a typical 5 day week or a extra 2 weeks off over a year.

Yet if the non smokers all walked out a hour a day and had a kick about on the car park etc we would all be seen as skivers....

Previously worked for an IT Recruitment consultancy.

Any attempt to leave before 6PM was met with sarcasm and barracking from the other 'inmates' even though we were only contracted to work 9-5.

The most annoying aspect of this was that I was the only one writing any new business! and quite a lot of it too.

I worked smart and kept motivated, rather than kicking back for 12 hours a day and achieving sweet FA.

Despite the fact I am paid pitifully, I love my job when I read threads like this, especially when I have witnessed what some office life is like.

Nominally my staff and I work 0800-1630 but as long as we do our hours we can choose when we do them, with many people choosing to start & finish earlier.

No one is expected to do overtime unless there is a specific job on, and even then it's usually offered out to volunteers.

If I want to take some time off and work it in lieu I can, and there's no system of recording this, they just rely on my honesty.

The fact that I have a little office of my own in an otherwise unoccupied greenhouse is a nice bonus too.

Are you one of those people that won't use shared toilets and have to go home?

I completely lost my rag with a few former colleagues over comments like that, they'd be in at 7am, eating at their desks and sacking it off chatting until 9pm and be there till gone 7pm most evenings and expecting to be applauded for it - it was some horrible game of chicken between them - who'd be first to blink and head home - but they worked at a snail's pace all day - quite often they'd just sit there staring into space.

Anyway after a few comments about 'half-days' and what not in team meetings I just blurted out "yeah a lot of the special kids in my school were allowed extra time for things too" walked out and left them to their 3 hour pissing contest.

This is why I now work from home self employed.

I also no longer have to put up with people who are p**ng about all day and useless at their jobs telling me why they are so busy (hint, it's because you aren't doing any f***ng work most of the day)....
