I thought TVR ownership was all going too well! I was driving along this afternoon and there was a ping/snap sound and the clutch pedal went solid. I was between gears and no further gear could be selected.

Arse!

Couldn't engage a gear so recovery was called. They sent the wrong type of truck so it took 2 and a half hours to be rescued. Due to this delay I was never going to make it to my chosen garage Christopher Neil in Northwich before they shut so I had it dumped at my work (Ford garage) in Stockport.

Now I don't know if it could be a cable or something else but I am growing in doubt that my techs at work will be able to sort it. Does anybody have any recommendations for garages that may be ideal for this job? I may well have to get it recovered again so some distance isn't the end of the world.

Thanks in advance,

Simon.

It's hydraulic in operation so no cable to blame. My clutch slave cylinder seized in April resulting in lack of gears for me but don't remember an accompanying noise.

I hope for your sake it's not a failed clutch plate or thrust bearing because it's gearbox off to change it.

Thinks, if I was one of your Ford "Techs" I be grossly insulted that you thought a basic clutch failure was beyond me!

biggrin Good point that, perhaps if that's the case has he just named and shamed his own garage biggrinbiggrin
Not something daft like the clevis pin snapped and jammed the pedal??

My garage is fine but I'm operating on its a specialist car angle. If it were just a cable then any tech could do it but as I've read there are other things it could be, potentially box out work, I'd rather it go to someone that could do it blind folded.

I also own a lotus and that goes to a specialist too.

Either way I'm going to get my lads to get it up in the air and see what is what then take it from there.

There's a fair chance someone will have to go head first into the footwell too!

Clutch arm gone thru at pivot point? Or broken? Can be done through inspection hole but it is a bit tight. 30 mins max wink

It's only an old Rover lump !

If you can fix a clutch you can fix a clutch, unless your guys are all born and bred Ford Techs they have more than likely worked on many other marques previously or as weekend "foreigners" wink

You say the pedal went solid, as in can't push it down or it fell to the floor?

ping noise may have been the retaining clip popped out and the pushrod fell away from the slave.
Find the clip and replace it. Sorted.

I hope it really is this simple for you

Pedal won't push down at all.

I've had a weekend away but will be sorting it this week.

+1
Mine did this. Slightly spongy at first for one press of the pedal and then completely solid. It was the clutch fork.

If it is, I believe there is a toughened one that you can replace it with. I didn't find this out until after the job had been completed unfortunately.
