one night in LA

Thought id throw this out to the PH collective for any suggestions, a small group are heading to vegas for a stag/wedding and we are staying first night in the holiday inn LA. we plan to do the usual touristy stuff but any suggestions for good bars or resteraunts to eat there would be handy? Also perhaps any ideas that are a little less touristy would be appreciated.
