Hi All, Was wondering if anyone knew of any long distance / all day off road mountain bike adventure events down south? I guess sort of like a sportive, but on MTB's? Something similar to this I guess;

Maybe even a 2 day one where you camp or something? I'm after something interesting for end of this year, or early next year no that the triathlon season is ending.

Not all day, but a few bits and bobs on:
http://www.gorrick.com/calendar_page.php

Im doing the Tunnel Hill race on next sunday (28th), which will be my first competitive ride... I see you are in Berkshire - im in Bracknell - so fairly close if you fancy rocking up - you can turn up and race on the day. Intend to wear my new PH jersey!

There is one in Dorset called the Hill-o-saurus that myself and few friends are doing in November (Saturday 15th I think).

I would link to the page but for some reason it keeps crashing my work browsers. Think the address is this; www.ukcyclingevents.co.uk/.../wiggle-purbeck-hill-...

It sounds ace, can't wait. Our respective wives and girlfriends are keen as its an excuse to hire a cottage, get some great food in and have a massive sod off roast on the Sunday. All around a cycling event, pure bliss.

You know it's been moved to Hungry Hill. See their Twitter feed : @Gorrick

Good news for me as the Gorrick rides alwyas get in the way of my Sunday morning cobweb blower through Porrdigepot and Tunnel

Bristol Bikefest in a few weeks, solo, pairs and team entries for 4 and 8 hour races and although 8 hours solo around Ashton Court is something I will NEVER do again, it was quite good fun.

I only noticed as someone mentioned it on Singletrack. As you say their web pages hasn't been updated, only the embedded twitter feed.

Did this a couple of years ago, great views, was a clear but cold -2 day but it was too short IMO. Was done in just over 2 hours with a puncture. The Epic needs to be 40 miles at least.

The Wiggle Hill-o-saurus is a great laugh- albeit sufficiently short you could probably just park in Swanage and ride the route for free without need of the fuel stops, not that I would condone such flagrant abuse of someone else's route.

I did it last year and the standard is quite short and although the Hill in the first mile and final climb are pretty huge its not a "hilly route" as such, the long centre section is a nice technical forest ride.

If you want to make a weekend of it the MTBing around Purbeck and along to Weymouth, Dorchester and Bridport is supurb, LOTS of hills, take a look at Strava and you'll see where we go.

I've been toying with the idea of Fallen leaves which is on the link in the OP's post. But I kind of think why not ride it solo & save £30? I suppose the social could be fun but I habitually ride alone, I like the solitude when I'm out in the sticks.

I see fallen leaves has moved from the New Forest.. bloody Nimbys moaning no doubt.

Isle of Wight Ride looks alright but the ukcyclingevents ones seem to have got very pricey now.
