Have booked a horseback safari in South Africa in June/July next year and am planning a week in Mauritius afterwards.

Definitely want to play some golf, do some diving and chill out.

Am torn between staying in a large resort such as Four Seasons resort (free golf) etc or going somewhere more exclusive like The Oberoi or Maradiva Villas and then just pay for golf if and when I want. (Am keen to play at the course on the island at Le Touessrok, but have been told that the hotel is closed for refurbishment).

Any thoughts?!

Thanks
smile

A little bit different, but we stayed here and LOVED it: http://www.lamaisondete.com

More of a boutique hotel than a B+B, very good prices and personal service. I hate big hotels.

We had our honeymoon at Le Touessrok. The food was fantastic and the whole resort had a nice relaxed atmosphere. Fabulous place.

I loved the golf course. Exceptionally well kept, good variation of holes and a fair test. It was tough going when the wind got up mind!

Strongly recommend west side of the island - June July time will be very windy on east coast resorts.

Maradiva villas is fantastic - as much like a Maldives resort as you'll find on Mauritius.

The Heratige Awali is amazing with fantastic golf, superb restaurants and staff who are friendly, polite and attentive.

Went for a week in May this year, thoroughly recommended.

Yes, this would have been first choice, but closed for refurb (will re-open in September 2015 as a Shangri-La resort).

At least i can still play the course if required!

Depend on how much golf you want to play? Been to st geran, four seasons, dina robin and paradis many years ago. If you are going to be playing lots of golf, nothing beats having the buggy at your door and being able to go out whenever you like. Cost of golf can really add up too, with travel to the courses its easy $200 per round. Four seasons is by far the best on the Island for a golf holiday, were going back in January and cant wait, but wherever you decide le touserrok should be on the list to play

Have decided to book 2 nights at Four Seasons and 4 nights at Maradiva.

I hope to get 2 or 3 rounds in the time while I'm at Four Seasons, including a round at Le Touessrok.

I've been emailing Maradiva with a few questions and they couldn't have been more helpful or responsive, so really looking forward to spending some time here - I understand that snorkelling / diving is better on this side of the island too.

I'm a bit late to this thread but Long Bneach hotel is the same group as Le Touserok and you can play there at very reduced rates if staying there.
Long beach is a very nice hotel, only Three years old.

I can second that. Lovely hotel and fantastic food, service and rooms. OH (at the time) said the golf was pretty good as well.

In case you don't get a response, we stayed in Maradiva too, albeit this was 6 years ago now and was one r last 6 days of a 3 week honeymoon with rest of time in SA. We were a bit disappointed tbh. Think for the money we were expecting more but not sure what exactly - perhaps it was because some of the places in SA were amazing but cost a good deal less. Two things that stood out I) decor was a bit tired althoI've may be its been upgraded by now II) we felt they tried to rip us off more than once. After I completely lost it with them, they did remedy point 2 pretty sharpish.

Food reasonable but not cheap.

All that said the villas are very spacious and like the outdoor seating areas and pool that comes with every villa.

We stayed at 20 Degrees Sud some time ago. Still gets good reviews. Private and quite special. No beach, but lots of activities available by arrangement.

Fantastic, with some of the best customer service I've experienced.

Not sure I'd want to be there for more than 3 or 4 nights, but it was a nice contrast to Constance Le Prince Maurice with its golf courses etc.
