£100K Garage: Adam Barr

From Lambretta to 3-Wheeler to pick-up, there's certainly variety in Adam's garage!

Name: Adam Barr
Previously owned: Audi S4, Seat Leon FR, Nissan Cube (NISMO import), Smart Roadster Coupe, Mazda RX8, VW Lupo GTI, Mini Cooper, 1971 VW Beetle, 1951 Ford Popular.
Currently owned: Vauxhall Zafira VXR
On the shortlist: "Chevrolet SSR"

Chevrolet SSR
Cost: 35,000 euros (£27,603 @ 18/09/2014)
Balance: £72,397
Why I chose it: "A proper 'marmite' car. Rare in this country, it's a retro-hot-rod-drop-top-truck with a 6.0-litre Corvette engine under the bonnet - a great cruiser with plenty of room as well. I think it looks fantastic in black. And it's guaranteed that wherever you go, there won't be another one!"

You won't be surprise to learn SSRs don't have their own classifieds category (!). Search all Chevrolet Americana here.

Vauxhall Zafira VXR
Cost: £8,990
Balance: £63,407
Why I chose it: "I have a family so I can't just have a series of two seaters! This car is so much fun. OK, so it's a FWD people carrier with a bit too much power to work in the wet, but it's much more chuckable than the Audi S4 I sold it for. And it doubles up as a van! I already have a red one, so this is my choice."

VXRs are always a bit mad, the Zafira especially so. See all for sale here.

Renault Sport Spider
Cost: £25,950
Balance: £37,457
Why I chose it: "My future classic investment. Already prices are rocketing for these since only last year - powered by the Clio Williams engine, they're not particularly quick but they are unique. I drove one a few years back and concluded it was both the worst and best car I'd ever driven. The build quality was shoddy and the clutch ridiculously heavy but you really felt like part of the machine once it got going. I was so close to buying it for only £12,500. Really wish I had. Has to be in yellow!"

Another £100K Garage with a Sport Spider! Find yours here.

Morgan 3-Wheeler Superdry
Cost: £29,950
Balance: £7,507
Why I chose it: "To me, the motoring equivalent of owning a Supermarine Spitfire. So cool, especially the Superdry Edition in silver. When you just want to have a Sunday blast!"

Want your own Morgan for a Sunday blast? 3-Wheelers on PH here.

Lambretta
Cost: £4,350
Balance: £3,157
Why I chose it: "Why not?! This particular one is a pretty tidy example and it's something I've always wanted! Reduces my carbon footprint with all the other things in this list! And you get some change from the £100K."

See all Lambretta on PH (there are a few!) here.

Comfortably the worst choices I've seen (and I like the Morgan!).

A dream garage including a Zafira and a SSR?!

Everyone will have their own dream garage, I think it's good that they've chosen what they want, not what general consensus says they should have. I got negativity choosing a Panamera, but if it was my money that's what I'd buy. Some good left-field options IMO. It would be dull if everyone went the same way.

That Morgan is just superb - I almost put one in mine but decided against it because it ate too much budget and it's not so suitable for track work, as fun as it is. I need one in my life.

I like that garage. Not just a series of over engined German cars. The Zafira VXR is very interesting, I had forgotten all about it. Cheap school run special that even Dad enjoys driving (one way).

Not bothered by the Renault though.

Honestly haven't come across anyone who even KNOWS about a SSR, let alone wants one! My dad's mad about them, nearly got one imported a few years back before they stopped making them!

A very marmite garage if ever there was one, do like the Morgan though!

Now that is the definition of a Marmite garage. The American crap and the Vauxhall are shocking but the Renault, Lambretta and Morgan are great fun. This is a person with a split personality I think.

Why choose a Renault Sport Spider over an Elise S1? The only thing the Renault has going for it is rarity because no one choose them when they were in production.

I've always been a big fan of the 3 wheel morgan, way before the modern version.

Looking at the classifieds,a lot are for sale with very low miles. Even the highest was only 2,300 and there are lots that are brand new!

Ok I know you wouldn't use one every day,and some-most?-people are speculating on values.

Or are they so impractical that no one uses them?

Genuine question, because one day I hope to own one.
Maybe should put this in the morgan section.

These choices made me laugh.

Dream Garage indeed.

OP, you are as mad as a box of frogs. In a nice way.

It is because they are badly designed, badly built and customer service from Morgan non-existent. And yes, I do have one.

Excellent garage and some truly original choices from either side of the pond smile
The Renault is not perfect but why not something different than an Elise?! I'd go for it too

Enjoy reading these garage choices.
Interesting about the Zafira fun factor - they do seem to motor on well for an MPV

Managed to spot a Morgan 3-Wheeler for the first time last week (and it wasn't a weekend!). Not something you'd expect to see! biggrin

"I already have a red one, so this is my choice."

You've spent 9% of your budget on a car you already own? And you have £3000 left - poor effort! Go buy something else wink

Wow indeed! That's quite a statement. Is this just your experience, or do other owners share this view?

Why the 'SuperDry' stuff on the Morgan? Am I missing something here?
