I need a watch for work and for safety reasons it has to rubber strapped.

I've never really worn watches before so I really don't have an educated opinion on them, so I'm turning to the pistonheads members for their recommendations.

My budget is £200 at a max as I've said it's for work only.

Seiko Monster every day of the week. I purchased mine with the steel bracelet, but soon swapped it onto an original Seiko rubber which I much prefer it on.

I have orange, but black is perhaps more subtle.

They really are superbly made and very good value.

What sort of work do you do? Anything involving machinery by any chance?

I chose quite a simple g-shock as it's a rubber strap and also doesn't use springbars, it uses two small screws on each end of the strap. Plus the bonus of it being indestructible to knocks and scratches.

The strap on a G Shock is made of resin (or at least the majority are). Sitting here now with one on it is totally different to a rubber strap. I have a Hirsch rubber strap on my Submariner currently. It's far more flexible than resin, and more comfortable as a consequence.

Notwithstanding, my G Shock feels indestructible.

I've got one of these :

I bought mine to dive in (and it's been on many a trip underwater with me), but it's a tough watch and the long rubber strap is comfortable to wear on a beach holiday (as well as being long enough to wear over a drysuit).

Makes a change from all the boring Seiko Monsters, imo.

Gshocks sound like your best option. Tough watches that you wont have to worry about to much

I like those, can you get an orange strap for them?

I'd recommend a G-shock - the design also protects the face from knocks.

Mine is 10 years old - wear daily and in really good condition even with all the sailing, swimming, hiking etc.., just replaced the strap at the local 'G-Factory' in Singapore.. its a resin strap which is comfortable. You can also get part cloth / resin straps .. bit softer.

Its also still on the original battery smile ( maybe it self-charges ?)

I've just purchased this as I thought it would be pretty tough and not so easily broken.

Thanks for the help and I'll post up how I get on with it.

Nurses watch on your your overalls. Failing that, a cheap Casio as it's borderline disposable and should be low enough to be less likely to snag on anything.

I disagree. I think that 'Monster!' is a clichéd answer and while many people like them (and Im buying a Night Monster myself), I think that an SKX007/9 or a coloured alternative, is a far better bet.

Buy a J model on a Z22 and buy an Oyster bracelet separately if youll ever need an alternative.

Id go for an orange face (SKX011) but that's principally because I don't have one yet...
