Morning chaps.

Mrs Mac has broken her Sony Vaio laptop (the battery has shagged) and we're looking at replacing.

She very rarely uses the laptop, mainly for listening to music. Most browsing is done on her phone while curled up on sofa. Because of this i'm reluctant to replace it with another laptop and was thinking either a netbook thing or a tablet.

The one issue I can see with this is that she has a large amount of music and photos she likes to access. What sort of internal memory do tablets et al have?

Any recommendations greatly recieved!

The iPad goes up to 128GB of internal memory, but it's expensive at that price. Although come to think of it, the Surface Pro is pretty damn expensive too.

The Surface Pro 3 has a memory card slot that can take up to 128GB(in addition to 64GB, 128GB or 256GB of internal memory), and I think the Samsung Galaxy tablets have a card slot too, although I think they might be only up to 64GB(I say only, but that's still a reasonable amount of space) in addition to 16GB or 32GB of internal memory. I think.

I have an iPad and I love it, I think they are the best tablets out there but I'll admit you probably get more options with an Android or Windows tablet.

Does the either of those allow access to a USB external hard drive?

My Acer Android tablet has a micro SD card slot and, with a 'USB to go' cable can read USB memory sticks.
Great when travelling to watch vids (& Sky Go )

What phone does she use, iPhone or Android? Makes sense to stick with what she knows.

The iPad doesn't, the Surface does and I'm not sure about whether the Samsung would read a USB drive without messing with it first. Even if the Samsung could you'd need a USB to Micro USB adapter.

As the poser above says, it's a good idea to stick to the same operating system as her phone for the sake of familiarity.

The laptop is at least 6 years old and is a bit of a mess. Its had a few screens and a new keyboard. The wife spends most of her time browsing on her iPhone.

If I did get the iPad, how would she access pics/music store centrally? Or would it all have to be on the iPad?
