Excellent news but to be replaced by another fishface in Sturgeon
That's not necessarily true. Listen to his speech: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-29277527.Breadvan72 said:
Resignation is appropriate and even, dare I say, principled.
Perhaps you are correct, however how the millions who had supported him with their votes will feel?He is stepping down not only as a First Minister but as a leader of SNP as well... this is a big slap in the face for everyone who was behind him.

Is it? Salmond sought to deliver full independence. On that he failed (although he obtained Devo Max). Resigning seems to me to have a certain honour in it.
We shall wait and see. Many of the "benefit" voters will feel that he let them down. However we are only expressing personal views here.

I agreeIf the vote went the other way would there be 3 resignations from Cameron,Miliband and the other one?
Breadvan.
Can I ask about that 'The Vow' pledge
If anyone voted NO on the strength of that pledge and now it appears it will be broken. WHo is to blame? The voter, the papers o those that made the pledge
