We have some work going on outside my parents house laying gas or water main. Earlier I just happened to be in and looked outside my window to see two contractors in hi-vis jackets lifting pillar tops of a front wall up and putting them back.

It was obvious that the guy in the digger had swung around and given the 4ft wall a whack with the bucket. The wall has a big zigzag crack running top to bottom and the right side has been separated so much it is bowed.

By the time I got outside to ask what happened the two culprits had deserted and two others in a hole denied all knowledge. I ask who was in charge and as expected he was on his lunch so pointed me in the direction of some other mute gorilla who just shrugged and walked off.

One of them said something like 'don't worry we will fix it for you'. Now i'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt. But because they initially intended to prop it back up and walk off. Which with little force could have fallen onto a passing child i'm somewhat doubtful.

The wall is bowed and cracked it is impossible for it be put back without taking the bricks out and building it from scratch.

Basically is it unreasonable to ask for a new wall to be built given the company in question are making millions from this contract.

Also is it worth me going to the top as the company HQ is about 3 miles away or do i just let these gorillas do what they have promised and hope they do it properly and don't attempt to patch it up and leave it like a dogs dinner. What is to stop them claiming the wall was like that before they started work.

Nip it in the bud with HQ. They may have not been made aware. Take pictures also.

Now just re read your last paragraph , take a while and then realise how fukkin stupid the question is wink

Don't trust them , 2 ways of dealing with this , and one of them is properly, it's going to cost a lot more than you imagine.

Is this a small local firm or larger UK contractor?

Why are they "gorillas"? Amy other insults you'd like to use to assert your superiority?

To demolish a wall then attempt to fix it and walk off. Then when confronted deny all knowledge is definitely the actions of a gorilla

To be fair to the OP (although as he's invoked 'won't someone think of the children?' I'm minded not to be) some fking retards who manage to smash up a non-moving, clearly visible object with heavy machinery because of their seeming negligence do seem somewhat on the simian side.

My parents also had this happen when my neighbours were having their garden 'done up'. Fortunately they had owned up to it but also the Google Streetview car promptly drove past before they had a chance to tidy the mess up!

I agree with the head office route. They have no intention of making it right off their own back.

The contractor will be insured for stuff like this. If they won't play ball and fix it in house, then raise a claim against them via your house insurance. This will mean a longer route to completion and you having to obtain 3 quotes etc...

Happen as he showed complete ignorance to him he came across like one.
The op seems very reasonable. You seem a very clever type wanting to assert your supposed authority over the op

I don't usually respond to poorly educated Tykes, who choose to write in their own unintelligible twang.

Not nice is it?
