Im having trouble deciding what my next toy should be 996 X50 manual or 996 GT2 comfort pack , ive heard all the scarey storys about the GT2 but prefer the styling and im prity used to scareing my self half to death , ive been driving a 420bhp Noble M12 for the last 3 years.
But what is the sensable buy out of these 2 if there is such a thing, my head says 996 X50 my pants say GT2 .
Just wondered what the genral concensus was about these 2 supercars, oh and just for record my other toy is my long time dependable 964 Carrera 2 and this is the 1st time ive contemplated a water cooled 911
Any constructive coments would be appreciated
Cheers Mark

Absolutely no comparison, has to be the GT2. I've owned an X50 and a 997TT and they are both massively quick cars. But, neither offer anywhere near the enjoyment you'd experience from owning a GT2.

The hard bit will be finding one!

Guess it depends on how you intend to use it. Your 964 C2 is probably a better weekend toy for road or track use.

My heart would say 996 GT2 but head would say you'd get more use from a 996 turbo X50 (as a foil to your 964).

The X50 is so capable and excels when the weather gets worse. It's also great at swallowing the miles but still has the feel when you get into the twisty stuff and the ability to pass cars is inspiring. It's also a lower cost to get into.

The GT2 looks so good, but I think it would get less use, costs more and finding a good one will be more of a challenge.

Or get a nice 6T (forget whether X50 or not)
Get a good tuner (DMS etc) 550-600 bhp
Fit a GT2 kit and sort suspension.

Useable AWD 4 seats and can use anytime to its limits

Best of all worlds

GT2 is the one to go for. Had a 996 tt for a couple of years and didn't think the GT2 could be so much more fun. An amazing bit of kit that will not disappoint.

Not knocking the x50 as it is a very good package, but the GT2 is the more focused and rewarding car that gets under your skin as you start to understand it.

They are an incredibly miss-understood car, but imo they are truly amazing and you get a sense if occasion on every drive.

I've owned both. GT2 is the more exciting car to own and an interesting / learning experience. I would err towards the hard core GT2 set-up and not comfort; just that it keeps you in the right place in the car; and ends up being far more enjoyable a ride. Currently i am in a 996 Turbo S as i get all my kicks with a couple of track cars, but i do miss the GT2..and always on the lookout - as a keeper of a truly iconic car.

Thanx for the advice really appreciate it.... im off to Brands tommorow in the 964 , better not turn up in something put together in a shed LOL!!
And will try and track down some owners and have a chat , but yes ive been offered both cars through a freind and im most deffinetly going to take a punt on one... My other half isnt to happy about me buying another toy but i keep telling her its an investment so it might just have to be the GT2!!

I own a lightly modified gt2, and have spent lots of time in an x50, noble M400 and M600. The GT2 is more Noble in terms of rush every time you drive it, the x50 a fast daily driver. Though on paper the x50 and GT2 are broadly similar, they are very, very different. If you find the M12 engaging you will probably find an X50 a bit dull.

Get a GT2....

And yes love my 964 ( like a good dependable good wife) but my Noble M12 can only be discrbed as a mistress

Maybe depends on budget but if you can stretch to it go GT2 IMO as you'll have something that Porsche will never build again due it's reputation
