Have had some problems with my AC over summer (it was blowing red hot on all temperature settings), it has just come back from my mechanic "working" although it isn't...

One vent blows cold (one by drivers window) then the vents get hotter as you move across the car. From the middle onwards they are all red hot (hotter than if you had the heating on!).

The car is a 1st gen Gallardo.

Anyone got an idea what could be causing this?

Here is what has been verified as working:
- Compressor
- Control unit (switches in car)
- Fully gassed
- Some switch in the front area of the car

The car has been in 3 times for this, and the last time when it was "fixed" they apparently found a blockage in the gas system which was removed.

I can't send the car back to them for weeks on end so would like to have an idea of what could be wrong before it goes back, as they don't seem to have a clue...

Early California's occasionally suffered a similar fault back in 2009 - a diagnostic plug-in & system reset of one of the A/C control units followed by a specific sequence using the rotary temp controllers would solve the problem and return the correct & even temp across all outlets.

Sorry this isn't a Gallardo specific reply but I'm sure most A/C units will operate in a similar fashion.
