Wondering what the un-synthesized engine noise is like, as the standard car was giving me a headache after a couple of hours on the Ring.

If you pull the hifi fuse you get the real engine noise.

M235i sounded much nicer, and that is synthesized too, so wonder why they have made such a poor job on the "proper" M car

It isn't synthesized in the M4, there is a mic under the bonnet that feeds the sound into tha cabin through the speakers. So, yes it hasn't come form the engine direct to your ears, but it isn't a fake noise. It's the genuine article.

That is not what was said to me by a BMW engineer that I spoke with last month. Fully synthesized according to him. Can anyone find a microphone?

Pull out the fuse, mess up your regular stereo system and kiss bye bye to your warranty?

So if a fuse blows, your stereo system messes up? I doubt that.

Whether you are correct (or someone who worked on the development of the car is correct) is not the point.
Find a microphone and I might believe you are correct.

I am interested to know what it sounds like with zero enhancement, and this is simply achieved by pulling one fuse.

And I can say that there was a lot of debate/discussion on this at the 2 driver training sessions that I have attended.

A mic under the bonnet could explain why there is so much road noise....maybe the mic has dropped down and is flapping about near the tyre

Deary me what?

Why would you want to mess about with pulling fuses out? If you're not happy with the sound (a) buy another car (b) turn the radio on or (c) put an aftermarket exhaust on.

Ask a wierd question and get a silly response. Then again, it's a silly situation all around that BMW have created; microphpones, piped in engine sound into the cabin etc etc.

IF anyone asked you such a question 10 years ago you would have looked at them 'what?????"

It's not a weird question, I found the noise that the new m3/4 produces awful as well, I might consider one if there was a way round it.

Kiss bye bye to your warranty? FFS.....

BMW were doing it 10 years ago but with pipes from the intake to produce induction noise in the cabin to 'enhance' their shrieking engine notes.

I was told the same.

Was also told it's exactly the same system/set-up as in the F10 M5, but as i've never been able to hear any such sound in my car i'm far from an expert.
