My parents did it by motorbike a couple of years ago and had no problemsat all.

Monschau is very pretty. We didn't stay there but at the The See hotel Maria Laach, not far from the ring or the Rhine.

The Rhein is a little industrial, give the Mosel a try, I'm sure you will prefer it. Koblenz, Cochem, Zell, Traben-Trarbach, Berkastel-Kues then on towards Trier;)

The Mosel is lovely but the areas the OP wants to visit are picturesque, Rüdisheim in perticular. There are also lots of footpaths that go through the vines and can be lovely. Wiesbaden is not too far away or indeed Frankfurt if the OP fancies an evening out in a city.
