Just setting my alarm in nightstand.
Theyve even taken the color out of the time selection.

I reckon they could go the whole hog and make the damn thing invisible.
Thatd be nice and trendy.

iPad 2. We have one of those in the family which is still on ios6. I have no plans to upgrade unless someone finds a way of installing Android on it!

Wise words - I foolishly "upgraded" my iPad 2 to iOS 8. Safari was painful to use, and that dumb thing with the bookmark tab staying open even after you have clicked the link you want was winding me up!

I managed to roll it back to 7.12 as Apple are still signing the firmware, but of course lost a load of stuff in the process of a restore. Next time an iOS update comes out I will wait and see how it's received before taking the plunge....

Safari on iOS8 has been enough for me to switch back to it from using Chrome for ages, some nice improvements there.

Overall it's a good upgrade, nothing dramatic, nothing that changes the world but thats largely how this works these days.

I will try and go back to previous ios.

But i was on ios 6 before so not sure if i would be going back to ios 6 or 7? Or maybe not possible.

Isafari and other briwsers are the wirst oarts of ios 8.

Other internet access is ok.
But 20 to 30 seconds to load a oage is a bit much.
Must be fixable by apple surely.

Rubbish for your needs perhaps, seems to work more than adequately for the majority though (I'm a HTC owner so not an Apple fanboy).

For the record I updated my iPad 2 to IOS 8 and all seems well so far after a day or two of use. (I can't see any differences to be honest as I'm not a power user)

Loadin a webpage in over 20 seconds seems a bit excessive.
It does it appear from scouring the internet that this is a common problem.

My needs?
I would say baring in mind the variety and wide range of handicaps out there for visual impairements the customisation options are limited, laughable, and have changed very little in 4 years.
The major benefit is tne threee fingered double tap zoom.
Thats brilliant.

A huge difference could be made by a few ootions to customize colors.
Apple hasnt got that many apps that they have written themselves.
So how difficult or time consuming can it be.

I would say that your device needs a reboot or apps closing. Not experiencing these issues on the same device.

There are so many disabilities I think apple have made a really good attempt to be inclusive, your just frustrated that it doesn't meet your needs.

Should apple do more? They won't do you think your in their demographic for selling devices? Will it hurt their profits not at all.

Can you do something about it? Like I said earlier you've stated your in IT and tech savvy so create an app/keyboard that suits your needs and you may end up helping others with a similar issue to yourself.

Is their any purpose on this thread other than to rant - NO

If it was so important, and you're so experienced, why did you do no research before updating to a completely new OS that you can't downgrade from?

If you're happy to switch to Android, a couple of apps can't be so critical, but you wanted them instead of a "working" ipad.

iOS is not the problem in this situation, hubris and haste are.

Add this lesson to your 20 years of experience or you'll make exactly the same mistake with the next Android update.
Silly me for expecting ios 8 to work.
Thanks for the so helpful comments though

Every time any new OS is released there is bhing and moaning until people know how to use it.

iOS 8 is an incremental improvement over iOS 7. iOS 7 was dramatically different and better than iOS 6.

In two weeks, OP, you will be fine with it as you will have found the options and settings that suit you personally. People hated Windows 8. Now (with 8.1) its really very usable. What's the difference? Twelve months of people getting used to it.

User friendly is what you know...give it time.
To be fair I'm not so sure that's a great analogy given that Microsoft backed down on the whole "my way or the high way" with Metro with 8.1. You don't even have to boot to Metro anymore with 8.1, you can go straight to the desktop and forget it exists, for the most part.

The guy has got a point though.

With your particular requirements it would definitely have been prudent to ask questions about design and aesthetic changes before upgrading. Unless there was a specific app or feature you required arguably there isn't much point upgrading at all - especially given newer OS upgrades are likely to run slower on older hardware as a matter of course.

iOS 8 works - according to most peoples definitions of the word. If you've got an iOS (6) that fits like a glove for you, I honestly don't know why you'd choose to blindly upgrade and risk ruining it all.

What - you mean without crashes, freezes, overlapping text, screwed wireless, 20 second screen loads forbbriwsers, etc etc.

Many people have these issues apoarantly.

Or am i u reasonable to expect it to work correctly?

Check the forums on the net.
It does not work correctly on ioad 2
