i have a strange noise when i depress the clutch pedal on my 3000S.
my car has been fitted with i think a Ford T9 gearbox (reverse to left and forward).
there is no noise at all with the clutch released, only when i depress the clutch pedal.
the clutch is cable operated. I Wonder if i can move the gaiter where the clutch cable enter the bellhousing and have a look with an Endoscope.confused

I think you will be taking the g box out and fitting a new thrust bearing as well as spigot bearing sorry no better news.

Yes, but you will have to remove the exhaust system (any maybe the manifolds, depending on how far they sweep back, but the big issue is actually getting the box out under the car, as with the bell housing on, it's tall, and taller than most axle stands (would be different with a pit)

As much as spigot/thrust bearing, it is as likley to be the front bearing on the gearbox...IMHO a standard 2.8 type 9 front bearing will not survive in a Essex V6.

the box is 2.8 Capri 5 speed late Gearbox type 9 with bellhousing from 2.5 Granada casting 72GB7505LA.
Supplied by Somar Transtec at Blockeley Glos.
Is there a heavy duty bearing for the box available.
If it was the release bearing it would rattle when clutch is not depressed and no noise when depressed

Yes, the gearbox would need to as such have 2.9 version of the front bearing fitted internally, (I have taken out more 2.8 gearboxes to have this done than I have outright converted to type 9 !!!) ....I would look at the other things first.

Hi Alan,

Operate only after proper diagnosis ! In other words, get the cable off, gaiter out and inspect, you'll be able to see the release bearing, not the spigot.

If the g/box does need to come out, it is more work to get engine + g/box out, it is also a good deal more easy....(as in, less aggro)

I would in any case not entertain it on your trailer, but instead go and look for a friendly garagist with a lift....

Clutch noise when depressed fixed, it was the Gearbox touching the Gearbox Mounting.
Wrong Gearbox Mounting had been fitted for 5 speed Gearbox.
You need to fit a special Mounting from Adrian after no problembiggrin
