Im supposedly migrating today, after giving my PAC over and getting confirmation last Friday

The 'old' phone is switched off in a drawer somewhere, my new one with temporary number is on and with me

Its now 2pm and I still havent moved

What I cant find an answer to on Google is does my old SIM need to be live as well as the one Im moving to?
I dialled my old phone, ie with the number I want to move over, and it came up as "unavailable number" or something an hour ago

Does this sound right, or should I knock off for a coffee and call my new network?

Cheers

The short answer is no , it ( the old phone ) doesn't have to be live.
Once your new supplier takes your PAC code and puts it in the system it takes your number from the previous supplier's system , cutting off and closing that account.

I've just done the same thing, left Orange/EE after 12 years to go to 3 . Got my PAC code from Orange and gave it to 3 , and , after realising the rubbish coverage of 3 , had to do the same again to then get and transfer another PAC code to O2 . From EE to 3 it took 2 working days , and I'm still waiting for O2 to sort my number out , and that was on done last Fri afternoon.

Edited to add, re you dialling that number, yes that sounds about right 'cos the number you are dialling doesn't exist at this moment. My current number is an O2 sim number , and been told that when the PAC has transferred over , my phone will say No Service , I should switch it off and back on again , and it will come back saying O2 but using the old transferred number .

It gets loaded onto the PAC system the day after request, and then all the number move the day after (Mon-Fri)

If you request it today (Mon), your new phone will be live sometime on Wednesday, assuming there isn't an error..

aaaargh - there is in fact an error

i seem to have a 'split port'

My old SIM on the other network has been terminated as expected but Vodafone have not set up the new one
Bizarrely I can make calls but not receive them and cant do anything with texts at all

Customer service have been utterly useless, some searching online reveals I appear to not be the first person this has happened to

Suggestions for getting it fixed welcome:

a) another call to useless customer services tomorrow when they open
b) drop into my local Voda shop who have the advantage of being on the same continent (unlike 'a')
c) start bhing on the Vodafone website forums
d) post some mentalisms on Facebook/Twitter

Cheers
